Daisybug Interiors is a residential design studio passionate about the art of turning a house into your home.
Julie Rucker of Daisybug Interiors has been practicing in the Rochester area since 1995 primarily in the residential kitchen and bath sector. She started Daisybug Interiors (the name is inspired by her children) in 2004 and the studio has been running on referrals since its inception. She has participated in numerous Homearama Home shows, Rochester Junior League Tour of Homes and various charitable events. Julie is on the executive board of AIDP (Association of Interior Design Professionals) and is a member of the NKBA (National Kitchen and Bath Association).
Dasiybug Interiors (DBI) enjoys helping clients discover their unique style and working with them to translate it into their homes.
DBI recently worked on a kitchen renovation with Brian and Pam Mount of Pittsford. They added an extensive addition to the back of their beautiful home, creating space for a new 284 square foot cooks kitchen. These dynamic home owners love to cook and entertain, so Julie created a space specifically tailored to their needs. The built-in pro style appliances, bar and serving areas, cozy seating area and dining table work seamlessly in the space. This unique kitchen recently took 1st Place (People's Choice) Honors in a national competition sponsored by Rejuvenation Lighting.
Tile Wholesalers provided materials for the gorgeous backsplash. DBI had fun working with the staff at Tile Wholesalers creating the one-of-a-kind splash with Mercury Mosaics hand glazed tiles. They mixed 5 different shades of
linear tiles, paired with round bubbles for a completely custom (and fun!) backsplash. The installation was a breeze with the designs mounted to mesh for easy placement.
The inspiration for this project was drawn from the home owner's love of the arts and nature, love of family and friends, and wanting to have a unique, flexible space to live and entertain. DBI started with rich, timeless wood tones-mahogany cabinets, wood floor and wood paneled ceilings to ground the space. The existing exposed brick wall from the original kitchen was kept for nostalgia, texture and interest. This became a natural back drop for a cozy sofa. Every inch of the cabinetry was customized, keeping the kitchen functional and organized (complete with a pull out drawer to hide cell phones, etc. while charging). To add some whimsy and fun, the pantry cabinets flanking the bar were angled, retro school house pendants were hung over the island, a custom, hammered copper sink was added, and the dark wood cabinetry was accented with shaker style blonde maple molding details.
DBI is currently working on a custom flexible table to move about the space. The table's turned wood legs will be able to be removed in sections providing differing heights so it can be used as a coffee table in front of the sofa, at table height when entertaining larger crowds or island height when there are extra cooks in the kitchen.
