The annual environmental permitting summer school in Marco Island, Florida provides top notch environmental education to engineers, attorneys, consultants, state and local officials, environmental managers, developers and others with a professional interest in environmental permitting. Over the three-day period (July 21-23, 2010) the course will attract approximately 800 environmental professionals.
STRATEGIC PLANNING AND PERMITTING FOR DEVELOPMENTPractical and informative course designed to address environmental and growth management for land development projects, including strategies for processing and obtaining environmental permits from regulatory agencies, determinations of when to obtain the required permits and in what order, and the level of specificity and procedural requirements of each agency; also covers tracking and managing agency activities for compliance with permit conditions, gaining the respect of regulatory agencies, and avoiding costly enforcement litigation; audience participation encouraged. Though the markets are currently driven by voluntary standards, mandatory caps on carbon dioxide emissions and required energy production from renewables are anticipated through federal and state regulation within the next few years. This discussion will address current voluntary carbon and renewable markets, industry standards, anticipated regulations, their potential effects on business and commerce, and opportunities for generating revenue and offsetting risks; audience participation encouraged.

Additionally, this discussion is aimed at clarifying short, medium, and long term obligations associated with mitigation banking and will address potential options that may be available to bankers once the project has been completed. Different case studies will be used to demonstrate these features.
