The Special Event 2011

The world's top event professionals will be gathering in Phoenix January 25-28 for The Special Event 2011.  Attendees will keep up with the industry's latest trends, be inspired by amazing events and network with colleagues, while attending the exhibit hall, professional education sessions and showcasing events. See you in Phoenix!

Tip of the Month

Do your host a favor...RSVP!

The term RSVP comes from the French expression "répondez s'il vous plaît", meaning "please respond". If RSVP is written on an invitation it means the invited guest must tell the host whether or not they plan to attend the party. It does not mean to respond only if you're coming, and it does not mean respond only if you're not coming (the expression "regrets only" is reserved for that instance). It means the host needs a definite head count for the planned event, and needs it by the date specified on the invitation.

President's Letter January 2011

Morgan DoanGreetings!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! What's your New Year's resolution? Let me see if I can help you out with three great options for you to consider as you kick off the New Year...

1. GET YOUR NAME OUT THERE! Your first step for this resolution is to register for our Semi Annual Trends in Design Showcase on January 18th. Calling all ISES Member Designers!  Don't miss the chance to show off your skills with a little friendly competition in designing an impressive table to inspire your colleagues in the industry.  Register as a designer or a meeting attendee...JUST BE SURE TO SIGN UP!

2. GET INVOLVED! Not a member? Act now! Click here and take advantage of our discounted rates during our local extended membership drive.  It's never been easier (or less expensive) to join! Already a member? Sign up for a committee. We can always use talented folks to help us out. Get involved and start reaping the full benefits of ISES-NCC membership!

3. GET EDUCATED! Resolve to get started on your CSEP.  This year Sara Hunt will be walking interested members through the steps to get certified with a much easier CSEP application process.  I'm challenging our chapter to get 5 people in the pipeline before June 2011. We currently have Ryann Sims, Josiline Shanahan and myself in the pipeline ...who else is up for the challenge? Read the CSEP corner feature below for step one.

My resolution you ask? I resolve to continue to provide you with relevant educational programs and valuable networking opportunities and to be open to any and all suggestions that you have for strengthening our chapter. Ideas for educational sessions or speakers? Great new venues we should check out?  Please email me your suggestions and your ISES-NCC Board will do all we can to ensure you get everything you need out of your ISES membership.

Cheers to a happy, healthy and prosperous 2011!

Semi Annual Design Showcase - Trends in Design & Decor

Celebrate Creative Competition - Join us at the ISES-NCC Design Showcase January 18th!

"Education...networking...education....networking...education...networking"

Does it ever seem like you're hearing the same old thing from your membership? Maybe they need a new outlet, how about some friendly and fun competition to spice things up.

ISES-NCC has come up with a Design Showcase to allow its members to collaborate and compete for the title of Top Designer.  Contestants must be members of ISES-NCC and are encouraged to reach out to other members to form a team. Combining their talents, each team creates a beautiful tabletop design for guests to admire.

Attendees then get to walk the floor and vote on which tabletop design they find the most appealing and on-point for 2011 design trends, all while networking and enjoying the company of their peers in the event industry. The concepts and trends live on and form new ideas for those lucky enough to experience them. The designer of the wining exhibit will be presented with a formal award and most importantly - bragging rights! All design teams' work will be professionally photographed and featured on the ISES-NCC website.

This year's ISES-NCC Design Showcase will be held at the San Francisco Design Center, and David Merrell of AOO Events in Los Angeles will be coming to speak to guests about design and décor trends in 2011.

Click here to register.  If you're not already a member, join ISES before January 18th and save an additional $25 on attending the Showcase!

ISES-NCC is partnering with Pen Pals for Soldiers this January by sending Valentine's care packages to the brave, dedicated men and women in uniform serving overseas. Pen Pals for Soldiers was founded in 1994 and is a non-profit organization funded by private donation and volunteers. Let's extend a helping hand and support to our troops by collecting sundry items for the solders in need.
