Congratulations to Blueprint Studios for their article in the March/April 2010 issue of Special Events Magazine.  Along with Got Light, Blueprint transformed the rotunda of San Francisco's City Hall for the San Francisco Ballet's 2010 Opening Gala in January.  Guests dined on a delicious menu from McCall Catering before heading to the War Memorial Opera House to view the performance, allowing Blueprint to turn the dining room into a series of lounge spaces for the after-party.
Tip of the Month

"Target.  You are not all things to all people.  Decide on your niche - narrow your focus and broaden your appeal."
Quote of the Month

"Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty.  Anyone who keeps learning stays young.  The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young."

President's Letter April 2010

Sarah Hunt photo
 Greetings!

April showers bring May flowers. What else comes with April (aside from Opening Day of baseball season, of course!)???

...CHAPTER ELECTIONS!

Yes, hard to believe, but it's already time for Chapter Elections. You should have received an email last week with a nomination form. If you're interested in serving on the ISES-NCC Board of Directors, please fill out the Call for Nominations application and submit it to Kelvin Nanney, our Executive Director.  There are a few Director at Large positions available for next year, and we would love to get some new faces on our board!  Serving on the board is a great experience, and if you're interested or have questions about what it entails, feel free to contact myself or any of our board members to get first hand accounts of what to expect.

April Also means there's only 2 more events left for our 2009-2010 ISES year.

On May 18th we will be hosting our annual trip to wine country.  Be sure to check our website for information soon. We will also be hosting our May Membership drive. It's the perfect time to renew your membership so we can waive the processing fee, or to join as a new member and get 14 months for the price of 12. Please contact Adriana Abbe for information regarding membership.

And finally, our last event will be our Members Only meeting in June at AT&T Park. If you need one more reason to join ISES, how about joining so you get a chance to play on the field at AT&T Park in June? At our June meeting we will install our new board, have a great FREE prize drawing, and deliver our annual "State of the Chapter" report. This is a meeting you don't want to miss.

I think that just about wraps it up for April.

Happy Spring!

A Day in the Wine Country: A Culinary and Wine Experience at the Castle

Join ISES-NCC on May 18th for our annual wine country trip to the stunning Castello di Amorosa in Calistoga.  Spend the day exploring the Castle grounds while participating in a Riedel glassware wine tasting and a cooking demonstration by Laurine Wickett of Top Chef season 6!

Ever since Laurine Wickett was 15 years old the only work experience she has ever had has been in the kitchen. She attended the Culinary Institute of America right out of high school, moved to the West Coast after graduating, and by age 20, was sous-chef at a San Francisco restaurant, managing a staff of 40. Laurine is constantly fascinated by all things edible. She is a meticulous chef who believes that all food is not created equal, and that you should be purposeful about each step. Laurine is currently the chef and owner of Left Coast Catering where one of her most important roles is to be a gracious hostess and make people feel relaxed and comfortable while they enjoy her food.

Following the wine tasting and cooking demo, you will be treated to a delicious lunch on the Terrace, with breathtaking views of the Napa Valley, Calistoga and Mount St. Helena.  Mark your calendars as this is an event you don't want to miss!  Shuttle service will be provided from San Francisco - more info to follow.

For more information and to register click here. We look forward to seeing you on May 18th!
March Meeting Recap
Are you Covered?

Wow!  What a great meeting! Beautiful sunny weather, great networking and an incredibly informative speaker, what more could you ask for?! The  March meeting started with a networking hour in the Main Dinning room, overlooking the beautiful Diego Rivera Mural.  Later, we were invited to enjoy a delicious three course lunch provided by City Club. As lunch got underway Larry Cossio, owner of Cossio Insurance provided our chapter with a plethora of Insurance information...Are you covered, why you should be covered and what could happen if you are not covered.  The information was priceless.

Also, during this meeting ISES-NCC partnered with  The Guardian Adult Day Health Care (ADHC)  ADHC provides a safe and friendly environment for the elderly person who needs personal care, assistance and guidance. With your help we were able to donate a number of art supplies and craft items to help foster the independence and enrich the quality of the lives of elderly people. Thanks you all for participating!
Welcome New Members

Spring is in the air!  As we move into the season of outdoor events it is a great time to turn to your fellow members for the support services you need to create all of those beautiful touches.  From tents to trellises to twinkle lights, remember our "ISES First" campaign to strengthen our community by using resources provided by members whenever possible.  You'll be glad you did, as one of the benefits of membership is having a network of professionals who can meet all of your needs.
National Volunteer Week

April 19-25 is National Volunteer Week - and we want to encourage you to participate! As a board we are excited to donate our time at the San Francisco Food Bank.

The San Francisco Food Bank works to end hunger in San Francisco. They provide donated and purchased food to over 400 non-profit agencies, enabling them to give nutritious meals or supplemental groceries to thousands of low-income families and individuals in our community.
