 Other Minds Festival

Polish composer and vocalist, Agata Zubel will be featured at the Other Minds Festival  in San Francisco in collaboration with the Polish Cultural Institute in New York.  Zubel will be presenting: Cascando (2004) and Parlando (2000).  Charles Amirkhanian directs the 2011 festival, which  will also feature Louis Andriessen (Netherlands), I Wayan Balawan (Indonesia), Han Bennink (Netherlands), Kyle Gann (USA), Janice Giteck (USA), David A. Jaffe (USA), and Jason Moran (USA).

Perforations Festival, New York


The Perforations Festival takes place annually in Croatia and presents a wide range of artists working in performance art, theater, and dance, whose diverse approaches to art-making blurs the borders between these genres. Highlights from this festival will be presented in New York, offering audiences insight into contemporary lines of artistic thinking from some of the most provocative and influential artists in Central and Eastern Europe.  This year's New York line-up includes:
Ivo Dimchev, Bulgaria; BADco., Croatia; Sanja Mitrovic, Serbia; Petra Kovacic, Croatia; Zeliko Zorica, Croatia; Slovenian Youth Theater, Sloveni; Via Negativa, Slovenia' Igor Josifov, Macedonia; Via Negativa, Slovenia; and Mini Teater/Ivica Buljan, Slovenia/Croatia. See more information here.

 Center for Safe Energy, Earth Island Institute
 

The Center for Safe Energy (CSE) addresses the most urgent needs of citizen-based organizations in the former Soviet Union (FSU). 

 

Since 1989, the Center has actively formed partnerships with environmental citizen groups around energy issues. In March, CSE will be spearheading the first ever conference centered on Lake Baikal, the Lake Baikal Delegation. The delegation will work to develop ecotourism and sustainable development around the planet's oldest and largest freshwater lake, containing 20% of the world's freshwater.

Unsound Festival New York 

 

Founded in 2003,Unsound is an annual event held in Krakow, Poland. In April 2011, the festival organizers will present the second annual Unsound Festival New York at venues throughout the five boroughs. This year the festival continues their mission to bring underexposed East European artists to New York and to boldly show the many faces of creative contemporary music.

 

This year's festival will be preceded by a series of special events taking place from April 1-5 under the banner "Labs" that explore the idea of a "Festival as a laboratory."
