We hope to see you at several of these events, and we invite you to read more about all of our arts programs below.

In the coming month, our donors will also be able to view the outstanding work of our faculty, staff, students, alumni, and donors through the new CMC progress report.  We think you'll be surprised at what your mountain college has achieved in the past year.

Q&A with Aspen Glen Scholarship Recipient, Brock Brones:

Aspen Glen Scholarship Recipient Brock Brones and girlfriend

1. What is your CMC experience like and what does it mean to you?

CMC has been a great place for me to find myself as a student.  I am 24 years old and on my second attempt at college.  Due to some personal setbacks, I really struggled with college and had almost written it off entirely as a possibility.  After I sought some help and got healthy, I wanted to give college another try.  From the start I knew that CMC was the place for me.  I feel like being in the mountains is an ideal place for me to learn.  The first time that I arrived at the Spring Valley Campus and looked out at Mount Sopris and the rest of the Roaring Fork Valley, I immediately found the personal motivation that I was lacking in my previous attempt at college. Everything about CMC is so unique and special to me. Through CMC, I have made lots of great friends who share a similar drive and passion for learning that I do.  That, as well as the amazing faculty that push me on a daily basis to achieve my goals has made my CMC experience so special for me.

2. What are your future career goals?

Being in the Roaring Fork Valley and working in the customer service industry, I have grown to appreciate the value of providing a warm and friendly place for locals and visitors alike.  Whether that is a hotel, a golf course, or a restaurant I believe that providing legendary customer service can make or break a business.  I am currently studying Business Administration at CMC and plan on making Resort Management my emphasis of study.  Ideally, I would like to use the proficiencies I have gained through my CMC education as well as my life and workplace knowledge to provide a once-in-a-lifetime experience to anyone visiting one of our world-class resorts in the Roaring Fork Valley.

3. How does the Aspen Glen Scholarship help you achieve those goals?

When I found out that CMC would be offering Bachelor degrees this fall, I jumped at the chance to further my education here in the Roaring Fork Valley.  I also believe that in order to properly prepare myself for a career in the Business world, I needed to further my education.  I am 24 years old, and I am entirely financially independent from my parents.  The Aspen-Glen Scholarship has given me the opportunity to be able to pay for college, which in turn will prepare me for a career in the Resort Management field and help me give back to my community some of the exciting experiences that I was so freely given.

I am very excited that CMC is now offering Bachelor degrees.  After graduating CMC last spring with my Associates degree, I was left with a tough decision.  If I wanted to further my education, I would need to relocate and I was not willing to do that.  I find the Roaring Fork Valley very dear to me and I have found successes here that I just wasn't able to find anywhere else. This Valley is very special to me and I am so grateful that I am able to further my education and meet some of my personal goals here.

Chevron's Gift Helps Students and Sponsors Community Cinema:

Chevron Logo

Chevron has made a gift of $14,500 to the West Garfield campus of Colorado Mountain College. The funds are in support of a second season of Community Cinema, non-traditional student scholarships, and concurrent enrollment student fees. Community Cinema presented by PBS is supported through a grant by Chevron. The movies to be shown at the Rifle campus this year follow the tradition of last year's presentations:  Independent films on a wide variety of subjects--some light, some deep and all thought-provoking.  Discussions follow each film with a different moderator chosen each time for his/her connection to the topic of the movie.  Receptions at the end of the evening offer refreshments and an opportunity to socialize with friends and neighbors.

The non-tradional scholarship allocation helps students who may be unable to take classes-- to learn new job skills for example--without some assistance with tuition.  Nancy Genova, CEO of the West Garfield Campus commented that "Adult learners are the heart and soul of Colorado Mountain College [at the West Garfield Campus].  To see the determination and perseverance that is needed to go to college while working or perhaps as a single mother is very encouraging.  We are thankful to Chevron to help so many achieve their goals."

Chevron's assistance to help defer class fees for Career and Tech Ed students who are taking these classes for high school and college credit concurrently is vital as many students do not have the money to pay for their supplies such as welding rod or specialty textbooks.  Without this help they would be unable to learn the skills that make them workforce-ready upon high school graduation.

Cary Baird of Chevron said, "Colorado Mountain College, and especially the Rifle campus, plays a vital role in the Grand Valley. Chevron is pleased to provide support to learners of all ages through scholarships, and to expand the College's cultural offerings through more Community Cinema programs in the coming months."

Chevron's continued support of and enthusiasm for Colorado Mountain College as a key provider of educational and cultural opportunities is appreciated.
