Johnny WeirOLYMPIC KNITS INSPIRE
Sports events like the Olympics always get our adrenalin flowing, but who would have thought that they would also get our crafty juices moving. The classic Ralph Lauren sweaters worn by the Americans were definitely cool. And the Cowichan inspired ones worn by the Canadians made us want to explore this wonderful technique again. But it was the custom made knit bodysuit worn by Olympic skater Johnny Weir for a photo spread in the New York Times that really made us sit up and take notice. Check out the links to the complete line of custom knits by the Rodarte design team and see all the Olympic photos by Ryan McGinley. Knitting has definitely moved beyond the rocking chair.

Knit JewleryKnitting with Wire
Wire isn't usually the first fiber you think of when knitting, but this clever book will get you hooked on the concept. It goes beyond simple wire knitting to include detailed instruction on techniques such as how to knit cables with wire, add beads and etch the wire for added color.  Projects include rings, earrings, bracelets and necklaces. You'll look like you bought your jewlery at an expensive gallery. SPECIAL OFFER: Just for our readers, get an extra 15% off the already low price of $15.63 (regular retail $22.99) by purchasing from MyCraftivityStore.com. You pay only $13.29 when using the special code KNITWIRE10

Kids. Kids. Kids.
It seems like they're around an awful lot in the winter, doesn't it? Between no-school snow days, sniffles that keep them in bed or puddles and mud that keep them from running free, bad weather may mean you never get a moment alone.

Two headed dollHere are two FREE PATTERNS for charming projects that you may be able to complete by using a little psychology. Let the kids know that the dolls are for them, but only if you get the peace and quiet you need to finish them. Even a half hour a day,Crochet Bears will make a difference...for the projects and for your sanity. If your kids are grown, enjoy a calming cup of tea and savour the memory of those crazy days of winter.
