OLYMPIC KNITS INSPIRE
Sports events like the Olympics always get our adrenalin flowing, but who would have thought that they would also get our crafty juices moving. The classic Ralph Lauren sweaters worn by the Americans were definitely cool. And the Cowichan inspired ones worn by the Canadians made us want to explore this wonderful technique again. But it was the custom made knit bodysuit worn by Olympic skater Johnny Weir for a photo spread in the New York Times that really made us sit up and take notice. Check out the links to the complete line of custom knits by the Rodarte design team and see all the Olympic photos by Ryan McGinley. Knitting has definitely moved beyond the rocking chair. |
This 3-day extravaganza of classes and shopping will inspire you for months to come. Stay for all 3 days and take classes from well-known teachers or visit the marketplace with over 250 booths for a day. Either way you'll love it.
When you go, make sure to check out all the goodies at JIMMY BEANS WOOL, one of our underwriters. They'll have an impressive display of kits, yarn, tools and more just for you at Booths 631-641 in the marketplace. Purchases at Jimmy Beans Wool indirectly benefit your favorite PBS knitting program too!
And stop in and say hello to KCN expert Maggie Pace who also has a booth at Stitches West. Maggie and her PICK UP STICKS Knitting and Felting Kits will be in Booth 95. |

Kids. Kids. Kids.
It seems like they're around an awful lot in the winter, doesn't it? Between no-school snow days, sniffles that keep them in bed or puddles and mud that keep them from running free, bad weather may mean you never get a moment alone.
Here are two FREE PATTERNS for charming projects that you may be able to complete by using a little psychology. Let the kids know that the dolls are for them, but only if you get the peace and quiet you need to finish them. Even a half hour a day, will make a difference...for the projects and for your sanity. If your kids are grown, enjoy a calming cup of tea and savour the memory of those crazy days of winter.
Choose the FREE KNIT PATTERN to make an ingenious old fashioned Two-Headed Doll (remember them?) courtesy of Bernat Yarns. Choose the FREE CROCHET PATTERN to make an adorable amagurami crochet doll that is reprinted with permission from Amigurami World. This book contains over 20 quick-to-make endearing projects that will keep you smiling all day.
Remember you must be registered on the new Knit and Crochet Now website in order to download patterns. |
