Adios, Summer

Summer is, slowly, on it's way out.  During the summer, life seems to slow down a bit.  People clear their schedules for long days outside and lazy time in the pool.  Vacations and family time take first priority with committees in the backseat.  Summer hours and summer frames of mind rule the work world and here at IGNITE, it's no different!

As we return to our "normal" routine dotted with added extras like football, warm chili and apple cider doughnuts, life returns to a more normal pace.  As we enter the fall season, I highly encourage you to reconnect with IGNITE.  Perhaps you've taken the summer off from events or you're looking to become more involved.  September is the perfect time to jump right back in!!

September kicks off our membership drive month (which you'll be hearing more about shortly!!).  For those already members, IGNITE encourages you to use September as a time to become more involved.  Check out a committee.  Attend a new event.  Help spread the word on why it is important to be an IGNITE member - it is, after all, so much more than just paying your $60!  Being a member shows you're actively engaged in community and support the efforts to attract and retain YPs.

To become more involved, please contact our Leadership Team!  Each team is currently accepting (and wanting!!) some new members to add to the base of great members already involved.

If team work isn't up you're ally, perhaps you can check out a new event.  Our updated calendar of events through October can be found here.  Check back to our website often as we're constantly updating, adding and tweaking to bring the best possible programs and events to our members.

As the colors begin to change, children head back to school and the nights are filled with bonfires, IGNITE maintains excitement and opportunities for our young professionals.  The air might be cooling down, but IGNITE is only just heating up!!
energize
The IGNITE LEAD Team has been busy working on the Energize program!  The program runs similarly to the hit TV show, "The Apprentice" and allows for small businesses to submit a business "problem" and utilize the knowledge of young professionals as they work to offer suggestions and put forth plans of action.  With their first client, the LEAD team has seen great success but needs your help!

As part of their research, the LEAD team has enlisted the help of young professionals - both IGNITE members and non.  Please take 5 minutes (there are only 13 questions) to participate in the ANONYMOUS study.  No personal identifying information is captured and will only be shared with the IGNITE LEAD Team and the Energize client.

Please contact Caitlin with any questions.

Thank you for your participation!!

Meet a Member

Congrats to Roger Kienast who was chosen as the "Meet a Member" of the week!  Roger won the networking  game at the After 5 at Bamboo to win this honor!  Thanks Roger for being such a great IGNITE member!

RogerName:  Roger Kienast

Job Title:  Distribution Design Engineer

Company:  ComEd or Commonwealth Edison Company

In a nutshell, what's your typical workday consist of?

In a nutshell:Juggling multiple projects to improve power reliability for our customers.

More specifically: I draw up a design print and order all the material that the construction crews use when building my project.  I also work with city engineers to reduce conflicts with our powerline poles when they want to make road improvements and expansions.

Favorite Hot Spot in Rockford:  It's difficult to choose one, but it boils down to either Kryptonite, Old Chicago, or a Nick Fro party.

What IGNITE event are members most likely to see you at?   The awesome After 5 social events!

Hopes for Rockford in the next 5 years:  They get a Starbucks and a variety of fast food lunch restaurants downtown (West side of the river).

Favorite way to spend your free time:  Golfing, exercising, and going out with my friends!

Advice to future generations in Rockford:  If you think Rockford has nothing to do, you need to get out more.  Go to the parks, concerts, bars/clubs, restaurants, sports games, etc and you'll appreciate the city a whole lot more.  Oh, and join Ignite!  You won't regret it.

Leadership Rockford

IGNITE members are heavily encouraged to participate in the Rockford Chamber's Leadership Rockford program!  Want to learn more?  Check out the details below!

THE MISSION
To enhance awareness of business, government and civic issues and opportunities through an interactive process and motivate direct involvement in business and community leadership.

THE PROGRAM
  • Access to key leaders and decision makers in the Rockford area
  • An exclusive introduction to the people and places that make up the very core of our community
  • Dynamic and significant interaction with emerging leaders as well as those firmly established in positions of influence in our region and state
  • Encouragement and motivation for direct involvement in business and community leadership
These are all integral components of the Leadership Rockford Program (formerly known as CAP), a nine-month program of panel and group discussions, business and community tours, networking, and teamwork.

THE CURRICULUM
Class members meet two or three times a month, typically on Friday from 7:30 to 10:00 a.m. Occasional Thursday afternoon sessions and one all-day trip to Springfield, IL & overnight retreat, make up the balance of the program. Each session is designed to give the participant a new and exciting insight into the people and places that make up the very core of the community. A high level of interaction is vital to each session.

The curriculum is reviewed annually by a committee of program alumni and staff to ensure that each aspect of the program is relevant, valuable and inspirational.
Emerging leaders are selected to participate in the Leadership Rockford Program. Whether new to the community, newly promoted within their place of business, or just eager to become more involved in the Rockford area, participants have already displayed a level of leadership. Members of the class represent a wide range of backgrounds: business, government, the professions, social services, the arts, and many others. The diversity of the class forms a dynamic cross-section of varying personal and professional viewpoints and perspectives.
Classes begin in early October with an overnight retreat. The program requires a serious commitment from both participants and their employers or sponsors. In order to graduate from the program, a participant must attend 80 percent of the class sessions.

THE CERTIFICATE
In partnership with Judson University, participants in Leadership Rockford have the opportunity to also earn an academic Certificate in Community Leadership (12 credits). Additional requirements would need to be met, and the cost for certificate is $500. For more information, contact Jennifer Mattingly, Judson University, at 815-399-3500.

TUITION
Tuition for this intensive nine-month program is $950. Tuition covers all expenses for meetings and materials including overnight retreat. The only additional fees assessed will be for optional social events.
