On Saturday, May 21st before a room full of volunteers, residents, board and staff members Mrs. Cathe Reams, Director of Marketing for Siemens One, was stunned and humbled when she was announced Rainbow Village's 2011 Volunteer of the Year.

Cathe has volunteered with Rainbow Village for more than four years, sharing her many talents giving, teaching, mentoring and advocating. Each year her involvement has grown and she's brought more and more of herself and her resources to the table. She's managed to infuse her professional resources with her personal passion to make significant contributions to the residents at Rainbow Village.

16th Annual Golf Classic a Huge Success

It was a glorious day at TPC Sugarloaf as 132 golfers joined in the fun at the 16th Annual Rainbow Village Golf Classic. This year's classic was presented by Pickron Orthodontic Care & Fortune Johnson General Contractors. More than twenty sponsors extended their support this year to make this one of our best. Take a moment to see who was behind it all!

Summer Camp Means Great Adventures for Rainbow Village Kids

Summer Camp! Thanks to our friends in the Duluth Rotary Club all 18 of our kids have received scholarships to attend summer camp throughout the entire summer. This amazing gift enables Rainbow Village kids the opportunity to run and play, enjoy the great outdoors, learn new skills, and make new friends.

While they think they are just playing, what we know is that there are many other wonderful benefits they will gain from their camp experience this summer that reach far beyond the fun and games.

  • They will be taught new educational content that keeps their minds in learning mode, boosting their retention and future academic achievement.
  • They will foster important life skills like teamwork, leadership, problem-solving and independent thinking.
  • They will strengthen their social skills and learn to get along with new types of people.
  • They will grow healthier and stronger as they get lots of exercise every day.

Our middle and high school students are being given a golden opportunity to participate in the Leaders In Training program at camp, serving as junior counselors and learning vital leadership, decision-making, and work ethic skills that they will carry with them for a lifetime. Thanks to all of the Rotarians that made it possible for Rainbow Village kids to relish in the joy of childhood this summer and grow in exciting new ways.

Retired Teacher Makes Huge Impact

Marlaine BarnesIt's been an exciting academic year for Rainbow Village kids. We've seen test scores rise, reading comprehension climb, grades improve and their overall love for learning grow. No doubt our after school programs, combined with the tutoring support we provide, continue to prove very effective in helping Rainbow Village kids learn and live to their full potential. Behind the scenes though there's a special lady that works quietly with our kids each week and she's made a huge impact on their academic success. Her name is Marlaine Barnes.

Board Highlight: Dave Fry

Rev. David FryThere are so many great people who help to make all the wheels turn here at Rainbow Village. We thought it would be fun to interview some of our leaders to learn what makes them tick. There's no better place to start than with our Chairman of the Board.
