Showered with Love for Mother's Day

Showered with Love for Mother's DayRainbow Village moms were given an extra special treat this year for Mother's Day when Sugarloaf Country Club invited residents and alumni over on May 5th for an elegant Mom's Night Out! While our moms were greeted with canapés on silver trays, Rainbow Village kids were whisked away to delight and play on an open lawn full of bubbles, jump ropes, balls and toys. The moms were able to let down and relax while catching up with old friends and making new ones. The tables were decorated with lots of feminine touches like delicate pink linens, flowers, candles and chocolate treats. A delectable dinner was enjoyed by all and everyone was made to feel extra special. In their own little world the kids enjoyed making special crafts, watching movies, and dining on their own kid-friendly feast. Everyone was truly blessed by the love, fun and fellowship shared by all. We send a BIG thank you out to the generous staff at TPC Sugarloaf who volunteered their time off the clock to make this evening so special!

57% and Rising!

New Property RenderingThat's right! Since we launched our capital campaign just one month ago, we've grown our contributions to 57% of our total construction costs. Phase I construction is fully funded and we're only 36% away from funding Phase II. There are still so many exciting ways you can give and be involved in making a huge impact on the lives of so many!

Rainbow Village Named Pinnacle Finalist!

On April 29th Rainbow Village was recognized by the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce as being one of the top 22 best charitable organizations in Gwinnett County. The Gwinnett Chamber's annual Pinnacle Awards honors our community's leading businesses and non-profits each year and we were honored to be named as a Pinnacle Award Finalist. We congratulate our colleagues at The Community Foundation for Northeast Georgia, Annandale Village and Hi-Hope Center for being named this year's non-profit winners.

Did You Know?

The impact of homelessness on mothers is profound. Many experience anger, self-blame, sadness, fear and hopelessness. Mothers experiencing homelessness have significant histories of interpersonal violence. For them, the experience of becoming homeless is another major stressor amidst already complicated traumatic experiences.

  • Over 92% of homeless mothers have experienced severe physical and/or sexual abuse during their lifetime. 63% report that this abuse was perpetrated by an intimate partner.
  • 66% of homeless mothers experienced violence as children.
  • 44% of mothers lived outside their homes at some point during childhood. Of these women, 20% were placed in foster care.
  • Mothers experiencing homelessness stuggle with mental health issues. They have three times the rate of PTSD and twice the rate of drug and alcohol dependence.
  • Mothers often are in poor physical health. Over 1/3 have a chronic physical health condition, they have ulcers at four times the rate of other women, and 20% have anemia.

The more we learn the more we understand how closely homelessness, poverty and domestic violence are tied together and how hard the cycles are to break. Help us continue to educate others about the importance of our mission here at Rainbow Village!
