DAILY DOSE: Our Apothecary by Design Staff Give the Gift of Great Health Advice
For the holidays, we asked our staff to give a little health and share their best health advice with all of you for the holidays.
GREG: "Don't be discouraged from taking vitamin D! Vitamin D insufficiency is at near epidemic levels and so don't stop what you're doing based on recent news stories. Get your levels checked, dose accordingly, but don't stop!" (Greg suggests reading: "Vitamin D: Beware the Hype")JOE: "It's important to consider all the pieces of the pie to achieve health - physical, mental, social, spiritual, stress. I once heard a skilled endocrinologist speak of how despite his training in some of the finest colleges and hospitals in the country, and his practicing medicine by the book, not everything fit as it was supposed to. His insights and research showed that if a physician wanted to help steer patients toward health, all of the pieces of the pie needed to be considered."JAANA: "Listen to your body - it will tell you everything you need to know. Our bodies give us a lot of feedback and when we tune in, we get great guidance about what we need to be healthy. If you need sleep, sleep; if you are thirsty, drink; if you are stressed, find ways to reduce it. Vitamins and supplements are a part of it all, but I really believe our bodies give us the tools we need to be our own advocates." BRENDA: "My best advice to my perimenopausal and postmenopausal patients would be to pace yourself. Multi-tasking is one of the worst things we can do, set ourselves up for failure and put more stress on our adrenals which are already working hard to balance those hormones for us. Try to take deep breaths, enjoy life, and remember life happens. We need only to enjoy it and learn from the experiences we have."
KYRA: "There are three things I try to stick with to feel my best: sleep, water, exercise. Though it may sound old fashioned, I really believe in them. And as for products, the three that I believe help me feel good are fish oil (ABD brand), multi-vitamin (ABD brand), and Skin Gel by AloeLife."
