DAILY DOSE
Surviving Spring Allergy Season...
The advent of spring means the arrival of higher pollen counts, and unfortunately for some, bad allergies. To enjoy the season without itchy eyes, congestion, and the side effects of an antihistamine, our health and wellness experts offer some natural selections.
Homeopathic remedies are a good choice for combating allergy symptoms. They are all natural, without risk of pharmaceutical drug interactions, and great for kids and elderly individuals too.
- Boiron tablets or eye drops help diminish a combination of symptoms from watery eyes to sinus pain to sneezing. - Homeopathic nasal sprays relieve congestion without the drowsy, foggy-head side effects of regular antihistamines and can be used without risk on an on-going basis.
- Bio-Allers are natural, home liquid remedies specific to your allergy. The individual formulas help target allergy symptoms such as mold, yeast, grass pollen, tree pollen, and hayfever.
- For allergy prevention - try Quercetin, a natural antihistamine...

Meet Deb Tewhey
A recommendation, personal touches, and excellent service have helped Deb Tewhey see the familiar faces at Apothecary by Design in a whole new light.
Deb Tewhey has known the staff at Apothecary by Design for a long time. She and compounding pharmacist Joe Lorello were acquaintances as kids. She worked with Tom and Diane Madden back in their old CVS pharmacy days together. Before coming to ABD, she already knew the staff personally, but what she didn't know, was just how much she would come to appreciate their expertise and care when it came to her health.
Over the years, Deb found herself taking a good deal of antacids to help relieve symptoms related to her digestive system. On one visit to Apothecary by Design - to get a prescription for an antibiotic filled - the pharmacist asked if she had ever taken probiotics before. Deb said no, and he explained to her that antibiotics target "bad" bacteria but sometimes also kill the "good" bacteria in the large intestine and cause stomach problems. Probiotics, cultures of good microorganisms similar to those normally found in the gut, can help restore the bacteria imbalance caused by antibiotics and infections.
Deb listened to his recommendation. Then she went home and did more research on probiotics. Convinced it was worth a try, she went back to ABD and purchased them. "What a great decision for me!" she says. "After a couple of weeks of taking the probiotics, I have stopped using antacids and I feel really good!"
Deb appreciated that the staff she spoke with at the pharmacy had expertise in so many areas and was grateful for receiving a recommendation that had such a positive impact on her health. It is just one of the reasons that led her to feel so confident in putting her care in the hands of the Apothecary by Design team.

Fighting Fatigue
| Fatigue Doesn't Discriminate
Carrie
Levine, certified nurse practitioner from Women to Women chatted with us about the
upcoming Fighting Fatigue and Getting the Rest You Need and offered a sneak peek
of the event.
Fatigue is one of the most common things
women present with.
Fatigue spans
women of all ages, at all stages of life. Fatigue doesn't discriminate!
Treating fatigue requires a
multi-disciplined approach.
Usually,
more than one system is driving fatigue. Fatigue can be related to hormones,
neuro-transmitters, adrenal functions, detox, nutrition, or stress, and the
cause is usually a combination of these things. To get to the heart of the
issue, you have to take a look at the whole picture - including history,
lifestyle, and testing - to narrow down the source of fatigue and correct the
underlying physiological issue.
There is help out there for being tired, and it's not medication.
The
treatment for fatigue (and also its prevention) is almost always ridiculously
simple: it comes down to the basics. Eat a Mediterranean-like diet - high in fruits
and vegetables, healthy fats and lean proteins - low in processed sugar.
Maintain a balance in work and play and family (or at least try!). And have
healthy stress management systems set up that are energy promoting rather than
energy draining: exercise and
journal, for example.
The take-away...
My hope is
that people walk away with a sense of hope and a renewed interest in things
they can do to affect energy.
