President's Letter
Wow, all I can say is Wow! I am so delighted to serve as President this year! Our group impresses me so much, there are so many really great people involved with Rochester's NAWBO Chapter, how can I explain my excitement! I am very grateful for the opportunity and I have to say our Board is filled with TONS of great ideas, LOADS of energy. We are going to have a great year! Until April of this year I did not even think about being the President of NAWBO. Honestly, I was nervous about following such an amazing example! Jonna Martin took our chapter, which was almost finished (financially, at least) and made it a resounding success! No kidding, we were really under water, and now, we are happy to say we have pulled out of the nose dive and are a very healthy club! We could not have done this without the committment of last year's board. It took dedication of each Board Member to be part of the recovery, and they were very dedicated. Each Board Member had an objective, provide value to the members, drive membership and drive revenue! And boy did the Board step up! Looking forward, we have so much work to do. This week we sent out a survey. We ask all of you, members AND prospective members, to help us understand what are we doing well, what can we improve on and what are your ideas on ways to make our group stronger and more useful. With this feedback, we hope to improve our club, increase our membership and give you exactly what you need from NAWBO.
Again, I want to thank you for your support, all of the well wishes I have received from many of you. If I can be of assistance, please feel free to contact me at 585-200-2320, or my email olczakk@gmail.com. Here's to an exciting 2009-2010 Year!

Member Spotlight
Leah Goldman, Esq.
If you have ever had the pleasure to meet Leah Goldman you immediately learn that she is full of life, energy and ideas on how to help her friends and clients. She has this special quality that makes you want to sit for hours and learn more about her and her ideas on how to build your business. Early in 2009, Leah plunged into the world of small business ownership after spending four years working in Corporate America. "As a former attorney for two large corporations, as well as being a small business owner myself I have a unique perspective and understand businesses from the inside out."
Recently married, she decided to go out on her own, jumping in with both feet! Now, after forming her own Brighton law firm, she focuses on business and employment law. Her passion is advising small business owners throughout the lifecycle of their businesses. "The best part of my job is advising business owners and helping them build and protect their businesses. It's so rewarding to see their businesses grow!"
Her practice focuses on individual client's needs. She works with each client to help them with business entity selection and formations of limited liability companies and corporations, drafting contracts (service agreements, independent contractor agreements, invoices, etc...), drafting and amending employee handbooks, and advising on employee issues.
"Like many small business owners, each day holds something different for me.", Leah says. Her typical week would include meetings with clients whether at their place of business or their home, followed by research and drafting documents. When all of the "back office" work is done, it's time for business building activities that all business owners need to do - attending networking events and board meetings for some of the organizations she involved with.
Leah is very active in the Rochester business community, participating in many business organizations including Greater Rochester Association of Women Attorneys, Business Network International as well as participating as a Board Member for Rochester's Chapter of National Association of Woman Business Owners where she is Co-Chairperson of Membership. Leah is very excited about her new venture and the opportunity to assist NAWBO's Board
My goal for 2009 is to grow my firm and provide excellent client service! |
