X Gym wins another stair climb!

I know, all this winning is getting predictable, but hey, we're just that good! This win was last month at the Bellevue Towers. There were 3 race lengths: 45, 91 and 182 floors. The X Gym had a team of four or more racers for each, and won all three race lengths. We also won fastest male and female for each event, as well as most of the age categories in which we had entrants!

Our next climb is the WaMu tower on December 2nd, so come join us and be part of the winning mojo! The race results count the fastest five climbers on the team, so even if you aren't familiar with tower running, don't worry about slowing down the team. Just join for the fun of it!

Train Your Brain Today

Did you notice how fast you can snap out an angry state when you need to?  For example, when you are in the middle of an argument and the phone rings for a business call -  do you answer it with the same anger, or do you change your state for the caller? Most of us change into our professional, business or cheerful state, and then we get right back into our angry state when we hang up the phone.

Well, this just goes to show you how easy it is to change your state when you want to! To stay fit and lean, you NEED to, because stress caused by being in the wrong state can lead to weight gain, especially around your gut.

Here's a trick you can easily practice to change your emotional state:

Next time you are feeling an emotion that puts you in a stressful state, just pretend you are answering the phone from a loved one or your best friend who has great news.

Practicing this little trick teaches your brain that it is quick and easy to change states. It's also a skill that gets easier with time and practice, so use it often and you'll be a state-changing pro in no time. Soon you will be able to keep within your fat burning zone and a great mood as much as you want!

They are finally catching on that less exercise can be more!
We at the X Gym have known this for years, but the rest of the world is a little slower catching on. A new study in the Journal of Physiology found that about 20 minutes of high-interval training provided the same benefits of longer exercise sessions that focused on endurance training.

Are you killing your liver?
A friend of mine died of liver cancer recently, so it's certainly on my mind. Liver disease is all too common, and it comes in many different forms. If you are overweight, your chances of liver disease are much higher. Being obese in fact, raises your risk by 52%! Drink alcohol and it's even higher. My friend was neither a drinker nor obese, but now that you know two of the major risks and how easily it can happen to a healthy person, how do you feel about your chances?
