Are You Putting Motor Oil in Your Food?
If you use Canola oil you are! It's been marketed for years as a "good" alternative to other fats, but a group of chemists practically made it up from scratch. It isn't found anywhere in nature. Canola is an artificial, processed oil made from a special man-altered breed of rapeseed plant which doesn't need sunlight, soil, or rain to thrive. Sound creepy enough?

Like high fructose corn syrup, Canola oil was developed because it is so cheap to make. The problem is that this process involves high temperature pressing in metal vats, bleaching, soaking in acid,  "deodorizing,"  and blasting with chemical solvents.

Traces of these chemicals remain in the oil, particularly hexane, which is also a component in gasoline. Its toxic effects on the body are well known. Canola oil has been shown in animal studies to cause heart lesions and other health issues, so make the switch to organic olive oil, butter from grass fed cows, or coconut oil today!

Special X Gym Boot Camp Benefits Haiti
Mike, an elite trainer from the Alki gym, is hosting 3 boot camps in Alki's Jack Block Park to benefit the relief efforts in Haiti. There is no required minimum donation, so just bring whatever amount you feel appropriate. You can check out more specifics here: http://xgymshop.com/haiti.html

Train Your Brain Today:
Did you list three ways getting fitter and healthier will help you contribute to others and their lives? Contribution is an extremely high level human need, and will help motivate you toward permanent fitness by adding another addicting aspect to your brain wiring.

Now think about the three most common questions that you ask yourself. Examples could be, "Why do I always do that?" or, "What's wrong with me?" Write them down over the next 5 days and we will talk about them in the next issue...

Thanks,

PJ Glassey, CSCS

And you thought high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) was bad...
Just like HFCS and Canola oil, food manufactures are always looking for cheaper additives to manufacture, even if it will cost you your health. Click on the link above to see the whole scandal.

Does everything need to be organic?
Sometimes it's not possible to find organic produce, and some people just can't afford it. Tim Van Orden, your next seminar leader even eats conventional veggies on occasion! For a list of what foods should always be organic, and those that don't matter as much, click the title link above.
