Greetings!

Welcome to the first ever X Gym online newsletter! I know you are all very busy (that's why most of you come to the X Gym), so I'll make it brief.

Get ready for some fantastic upgrades and improvements to both the Alki and Kirkland X Gyms! You have spoken, and we have listened. There will be a BIG new announcement in every issue, so make sure you are receiving these to your best email address.

If you have a better email you would like me to use, please click the "Join Our Mailing List" button to the left and enter that address. You will probably want to refer back to these emails in the future, so be sure to put them in your "save" folder when you are done reading!

These newsletters will also provide you with fascinating research updates on fitness, nutrition, wellness and health. See the links under New information below for some examples.

Finally, I have a question for you... if you could have a private conversation with me, what question would you most like to ask? What comment or suggestion would you like to make? I want to hear, so please send me your questions, comments and suggestions to pj@xgym.com.

That's all for now, scroll down for more info and a free offer! Look for your next issue very soon with more good stuff!

Thanks,

New information this issue:

Click here to read new research on why you can't resist certain foods.

Teaser Excerpt: "Highly palatable" foods -- those containing fat, sugar and salt -- stimulate the brain to release dopamine, the neurotransmitter associated with the pleasure center. In time, the brain gets wired so that dopamine pathways light up at the mere suggestion of the food, such as driving past a fast-food restaurant, and the urge to eat the food grows insistent. Once the food is eaten, the brain releases opioids, which bring emotional relief. Together, dopamine and opioids create a pathway that can activate every time a person is reminded about the particular food. This happens regardless of whether the person is hungry.

Click here to find out the best time of day for workouts in the sun.

Summary: Most people believe that mid-day is the most dangerous time for sun exposure because the sun's rays are the most intense. New research shows however, that your cancer risk is actually increased before and after this time of day.
When the sun is rising or setting, the angle of rays through the atmosphere increases. This filters out UVB rays, but the UVA still puches through. Since it is UVA that is highly correlated with melanoma, and UVB is the one that signals our skin to produce vitamin D, mid-day sun is the best for your skin and your vitamin D production! You also need less time in the sun during mid-day to get its benefits because of the increased intensity. 15 minutes of mid-day sun in short sleeves is all it takes to get your full dose of vitamin D!

Quote of the day: "I went on a diet, and in 14 days all I lost was two weeks" -Joe Lewis, world heavyweight boxing champ
