FALL BACK IN TO SHAPE.Many of us associate getting back in to shape with the beginning of a new year or in preparation for summer. Going in to Fall or Winter hardly seems like the time to amp up the heartrate. However, many of us let ourselves slide here and there during the sunny days while out barbequing with friends or enjoying a vacation. It's time to work all of the extra pounds off! Take advantage of the weather. It's a great time to exercise outdoors and enjoy the change of season. Integrate exercise in to your life. Take the stairs instead of the elevator, walk during your lunch break, walk during your child's soccer practice instead of sitting on the bleachers. Train for a sporting event. The Fall is a great time to train for a race. For local races in your area, click HERE.
HEALTHY SACK LUNCHES
It's that time of year again where kids trade in their skateboards and swimsuits for backpacks and bagged lunches. Make sure you help your child get off on a good start this year by providing healthy meal options for them while they are away from your care. Avoid the chips, cookies and other pre-packaged snacks and opt for something that you prepared yourself like sliced tomatoes, low-fat yogurt, baby carrots or trail mix. You can even make a sandwich more unique and enjoyable by using cookie cutters to shape the bread. Be sure to pack using re-usable sandwich baggies. If you do not have time to pack lunches and will be having your child purchase a school meal, be sure to get the school calendar to see the meals your child will be served and inform your child of the best choice. Talk to school administrators if you feel more could be done to provide better options. MORE.
