Support A Great Cause

New Performance is teaming up with educators from Mother of Sorrows, an inner-city school in Los Angeles, to enact a nutrition and fitness program for all students commencing during the 2009-2010 school year. A vast majority of students at Mothers of Sorrows are hindered by the plague of obesity. The school desperately needs a program to promote awareness amongst parents, children and teachers. New Performance is hoping to assist the children by implementing a nutrition program to increase health awareness through an on-site nutritionist, weekly health classes for all grades, the distribution of pamphlets, supplies, field trips to markets and grocery stores and exercise. Parents will play an active role in their child's well-being by attending mandatory healthy living meetings designed to ensure that nutritional concepts are being instilled at home as well as at school. Such implementations will better increase the students' personal health and performance level in school mentally, physically and socially. However, in order to execute the proposal, funding is necessary. New Performance has submitted a proposal to SHINEALIGHT, a sponsorship by American Express and NBC, at a chance to receive a $100,000 grant to support the children's program at Mother of Sorrows. New Performance is inviting you to help the cause by simply nominating for us on the web. The process is simple. You must first register and then search under nominees for New Performance and cast your vote. The last date to nominate is September 13th! Thank you for your support! |

Resolving Carbohydrate Confusion
In today's health world people are being sold on the fact that carbs are the enemy. This fascination with low-carb diets has many people gambling with their health and long-term weight loss is usually not the result. Before reconstructing your whole diet plan to eliminate carbohydrates, you should know that carbohydrates are necessary for your daily stability. Carbohydrates are our body's fuel and if decreased then a person's health will decline physically and mentally. Complex carbohydrates are necessary to keep stamina throughout the day. There is a difference between simple and complex carbohydrates. Simple carbohydrates contain refined sugars and few essential vitamins and minerals. They are digested quickly and should be accompanied by a fat portion, 9-10 grams from nuts or nut butters. "Man Made" simple carbs contain refined sugars while complex carbohydrates are packed wtih fiber, vitamins and minerals, taking them longer to digest and keeping you full longer. "Grown in Nature" complex carbohydrates can be found in yams, sweet potatoes, squash, corn, peas, lentils, rice , potatoes and all beans. Others include veggies, pasta, breads and cereals. A food label might claim to be low-carb but that does not mean it is low in fat or in calories. The best kinds of carbohydrates come from natural foods and should not be eliminated but moderated in your daily diet. |

Stay Smart. Keep Hydrated.
Fall may bring cooler weather, but that's doesn't mean that you need to cool off your water intake. With school starting up again, many sports and organizations are just getting started with their season. If you have children involved in school sports or if you yourself are athletically active, don't dismiss the importance of water. Water carries out a number of important functions with in the human body. One of the many functions is body temperature regulation. When body temperature starts to rise, sweat glands secrete sweat, which is 99% water. As the sweat evaporates, heat is removed from the body and the body is maintained at a normal temperature. While water is lost through perspiration, so are important minerals in the body such as Sodium, Calcium, Magnesium and Potassium. These electrolytes can be replenished by drinking more fluid in combination with electro-mix to ensure your body has the necessary vitamins and water level to keep at optimal performance. Be smart and maintain your water intake. | |
