April 2009 |

Greetings!
The summer diving season is here! This is a reminder that our annual Treasure Dive, usually the weekend after Labor Day, has been moved. This year, we're holding it the second weekend in August--the 8th and 9th. You'll need to put this on your calendar to remember, since it is a big change.
We were prompted to do this because of the poor weather conditions we've had for the last several years. Also, in September, we often run into conflicts with Nebraska football games. Camping out should also be pleasant and warm.
Now, just get out and dive!
Sincerely,
Ron Johns Heartland Scuba Center

Lake Wazee
Black River Falls WI |
|
We still have room--come on out and dive!
Join us for our trip to Lake Wazee on May 29-31. Wazee is an old open pit iron mine that was abandoned and flooded with ground water. In May, the visibility is usually excellent.
You'll dive on the old mining roads that circle the mine and dive through lots of trees that grew up when that portion of the lake was above water.
This is an inexpensive trip--we usually camp out in the excellent campground right on the lake. It's a pretty place and a great place for Advanced training. We'll be offering Deep Diver, Dry Suit Diver and Intro to Tech. Or, just come along and dive for fun in a new environment.

Bull Shoals Lake
Bull Shoals AR |
|
This trip is starting to fill, so don't wait too long!
We have our June trip to Bull Shoals Lake scheduled for June 12-14. Bull Shoals is a beautiful lake with great visibility. We've had 50-60 ft visibility there in the past. Last year the lake was 40 feet above normal and we still had 25 foot visibility.
You'll dive on vertical rock walls, submerged forests, and you'll see lots of good fish life. We rent a 34-ft pontoon boat for diving. It's a great platform with lots of room. Diving is very convenient with the dive shop right at the marina, so air fills are quick and easy.
We'll be offering Open Water Dives, Deep Diver, Dry Suit Diver, Diver Propulsion Vehicle Diver and Advanced Adventure Diver that weekend. The DPV course is especially fun down there where you can fly through those submerged trees on the scooter!
We'll try for rooms at the Lighthouse Point Resort again. Each room has a balcony facing west, overlooking the lake. It doesn't get much better than sitting on the balcony with friends, watching the sun set over the lake.

The Underwater Channel.tv
New Web Diving TV |
|
OK armchair divers--now you can slip, in a virtual sense, beneath the water any time, anywhere, without getting wet. The Underwater Channel (UWC) is a new, free-to-watch TV channel founded by Emmy award-winning filmmaker Nicholas Claxton.
Splash! is an original monthly program presented on the channel. In addition to this, there is a broad range of underwater content--professionally produced documentaries from underwater film makers covering natural history, marine conservation, expeditions, creature encounters, scuba adventures and everything in between.

| SHARK TOOTH DIVING |
|
It's crunch time for this trip. We need three more people to sign up! If not, we will be forced to cancel in order for Scott to have a chance to fill our spots. May 15 is the cutoff date for sign ups. Don't let this great trip slip by.
We have our second trip scheduled to North Carolina to dive for these 10 million-year-old shark tooth fossils. This is a new experience that is really exciting and you'll bring home some great treasures to share with friends and family.
For detailed information, call me--I was there last year.
