Township Electric Aggregation Program Notification
This press release was written to further clarify
the recent mail notifications residents are receiving.
(SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Hamilton County, Ohio, January 12, 2012) The Township continues to field several phone calls from residents regarding a letter they received from Duke Energy indicating that Dominion Retail will no longer be the electric supplier for Springfield Township. While this is in fact true, the Township has selected First Energy to be the Township's electric aggregation supplier through December 31, 2013. The letter from Duke Energy is being sent to residents because there was an unforeseen delay in mailing the opt-out notifications from First Energy.
The opt-out notices are currently being mailed by First Energy and we expect to have the eligible residents enrolled by February. If you receive a letter from Duke indicating that Dominion is no longer the supplier, please disregard the letter. We have contracted with First Energy to replace Dominion. If you have not already, you should receive your opt-out notice in the mail shortly giving you the opportunity to continue in the Township's electric aggregation program, which is expected to provide considerable savings for residents with a rate of 5.34 cents/kWh. *If you want to continue with the Township's aggregation program, you do not need to do anything. If you choose to NOT participate in the electric aggregation program, you may send in the opt-out form enclosed in the letter. To verify if you are enrolled in the Township's program, please call First Energy at 1-866-636-3749. The Township does NOT have this information.
Due to the delay in mailing the opt-out notices, some residents desiring to be in the aggregation program may be temporarily switched back to Duke for the month of January and then will be automatically signed up with First Energy starting in February. First Energy has indicated that they will honor the rate of 5.34 cents/kWh for all residents that may be switched back to Duke for the month of January. In these cases, a reimbursement will arrive as a check for the difference in savings from Duke's rate in January.
