Sept. 18-24 is Child Passenger Safety Week!

Help us celebrate National Child Passenger Safety Week by reviewing updated car seat recommendations for your children and have your child's car seat checked by a professional.
Follow this link to the NHTSA website for details.

Dear Parents,

All of us at Lake Shore Pediatrics hope that your transition "back to school" has been smooth and successful!  Please read below for flu vaccine and clinic information.  Thanks again for your trust, dedication, and referrals.

It's Flu Vaccine Time

We have received our initial shipments of flu-shots and FluMist and have already begun vaccinating our patients.  Please call to schedule an appointment for your child to receive their vaccine soon.  As a convenience, we will be holding a flu vaccine clinic day at all three offices on Monday, Oct. 10th.  These clinics are appointment only, we will not accept walk-in visits for flu-shots.

The flu vaccine for the 2011-2012 season is identical to last year's, and comes as an injection or nasal spray form.  Only patients 2 years old and up without asthma can receive the FluMist spray.

It is recommended that all children from 6 months through 21 years of age receive a flu vaccine.

Sports Drinks vs. Energy Drinks

Surprisingly, many people are unaware that "sports drinks" such as Gatorade and/or All Sport brands are different from "energy drinks".  Energy drinks (such as Monster or Red Bull) are often advertised as healthy alternatives with natural supplements and vitamins, but their main ingredients are sugar and caffeine.  There is absolutely no place for energy drinks in a person's diet, regardless of age.  And although sports drinks may seem "harmless", water is still a better choice for hydration.  Click on the link on the upper left for more information.
