Salve,
 | | Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc blocks at LaStella |
As the summer starts to draw to a close and students return to school we wanted to update you on the status of our spring releases from LaStella.
First off, the 2011 Moscato D'Osoyoos is, sadly, now sold out.
This brings us naturally to our other white wines, Vivace and Leggiero as well as our rosato LaStellina. Each of these wines is getting close to being sold out as well, if you haven't had a chance to take some home, or if your supply is running short, now is the time to order!
In this issue:
Salute!
Remember, the tasting room is still open 7 days a week! The late summer weather in the Okanagan valley is usually fantastic so if you need one final getaway from the city please come and see us!

Late Summer Vineyard Report:
One month before harvest our winemaker Severine Pinte and GM Rasoul Salehi share their summary of the vintage.
2012 was a return to normalcy in the South Okanagan Valley, neither freakishly hot like 2009 nor cool like 2010. Furthermore, contrary to 2011 we returned to the usual pattern of scorching hot days and cool nights.
In the vineyards veraison is complete in the Maestoso block (Osoyoos Lake bench) due to its exposure and extreme low yields; veraison is almost complete in the rest of the vineyards. As with 2011 we are seeing no disease, mold or mildew - we anticipate that hand sorting will be minimized. Ripening is very even throughout each vineyard - a relief come harvest time.
Less labour in the winery is fortunate however! More than usual rainfall in June meant we had to expend considerable expense on manual weed pulling and hand hoeing.

We expect the Moscato grapes will be first into the winery (as usual); unfortunately volumes of Moscato will be down this vintage. The Sangiovese already has thick tough skins, high acidity and high tannins. Merlot from the Maestoso block has its typical lush fruit and round tannins; Merlot from the Feuille d'Or vineyard in Golden Mile has higher acidity grippier tannins - all exactly as we've come to expect.
