Greetings!

Did you know 350,000 people will die this year in the U.S. from sudden cardiac arrest? That's 20 people, in every state, every day.
thermo 26
Without oxygen, the brain can survive for about 4-6 minutes. 6-8 minutes, the brain cells start to die. After 8-10, damage can be irreversible. The national average of EMS response is 11 minutes: from the 911 call to an ambulance on location. As you can see, learning CPR saves lives -- between 12-15%. Learning CPR along with the AED (the 'shocky' thing!) can increase the chance of survival up to 80%!

As many of you know, Barbara and I are volunteer EMTs and CPR, AED and First Aid instructors.

Barbara has a new goal this year -- she wants us to teach CPR and AED to at least 100 people. As of February 1st, we've taught 26! How about joining us in this venture?

Call or email Barbara today to see how you can help us reach this goal...whether for you, your family, your civic organization or those you work with?!

If your loved one suddenly went into cardiac arrest, would you know what to do?

Thank you...and be safe!
Robert

 Learning to Fly

Its hard for me to believe that I've been a part of Peregrine Associates for almost three years now. I'm still learning new things every day.  One of the newest lines that I have been learning about is awards, trophies and other recognition products. We offer a wide variety from metal, wood and acrylic to color, engraving and etching. These products can run from the fairly inexpensive to custom awards which can certainly reflect a high-end acknowledgement for achievements above and beyond. I'll be featuring a number of these in February's Sales and Specials flyer - so keep tuned.

What's in a handshake?

What's in a hand shake? More than you might know. In many cases, this may be the first nohandshaken-verbal communication you have with a client, so make sure it counts.
  • If your hand is above the horizontal, you take a dominant approach. It's best to have both hands vertical to stay on 'equal' ground.
  • Do not be any firmer than the other's grip. This would be construed as an over-bearing personality.
Have you ever met:
  • The shaker: the person that keeps shaking and shaking. They must be really happy to meet you.
  • The holder: someone who holds on a split second after you start to let go. That look in their eye tries to tell you that they won.
  • The crusher: trying to prove they're stronger, but only proving they feel they're better than you.
  • The weak: what's up with that?
  • The taker: they take your hand with both of theirs, the mothering factor?

Life Call BCBusiness Cards
LifeCall

LifeCall Solutions, LLC is dedicated to providing products and services that will increase peace of mind, security, mobility and quality of life.

The logo created uses colors symbolizing life and a movement through the use of the three swooshes. Taking that, we then phantomed the graphics into the back of the card along with a blue gradation to give the card more depth.

And with all our full color cards, printing on the back is free! So we took their slogan and made sure everyone knew what they were all about!

Making it storm!

Ever wonder how they get lighting to hit just where they need it? It's easy if you know how with the right software:

lighting-1
  1. First, find a great photo that you want to electrify!
  2. Next, add some clouds. It's an actual filter, but the pun works just fine.
  3. After reversing and increasing the contrast, rotate the image and find  just the right spot in the picture to place it.

Digital Photography
Shutter Speed

Remember, good exposure is a mixture between aperture (we covered that last newsletter) and shutter speed. Between the two, the right amount of light exposes the 'film' with just enough detail in the shadows but not so bright that the highlights are washed out.

The shutter speed controls movement. As you can see in the three photos below. #1) A fast shutter speed will stop all motion, even a speeding car. Here, it looks likes it's sitting on the race track. #2) The next photo is a medium speed. By panning along with the car as you gently squeeze the button, the car looks still except for the wheels showing motion and the background is blurred. Now this car looks like its flying! #3) Finally, the third photo of the water fall is on a slow/long shutter setting causing the water to look like a mist!

With digital, it's easy to try different settings without wasting good ole' 35mm film -- like us old timers used to have to do. So try lots and lots of different aperture/shutter combinations, you've got nothing to lose!

CPR Heart Starters NEW Website!

CPR Heart Starters has a new look and a new website. It's fully e-commerce.

We took the concept of their online classes and made them an item to buy. If there are limited seats for a class, they enter that as the number in stock. Each class can then be purchased online using a charge card, just like it was an item.

Oh yea, they do sell medical supplies like BP Cuffs, Stethoscopes and more! And you can search for them and add them to your shopping cart!

It's our layout built into an e-commerce shopping cart. A perfect match!

Final Thoughts...
Happy New Year and to a better 2010!

It sure looks like the economy is getting better. Many of our clients are starting to get busy: construction, fuel, personal care and more. And, we sure are busy here at Peregrine.

Something that one of our associates told us about a month ago. "Business is out there, you just have to ask for it". And, that's the key...just ask for it!

Hoping you and your family have a healthy and successful 2010!
