From the nest
Greetings!
In reference to my editorial in March's newsletter, I want to thank those of you who have expressed sympathy for this father of twin girls who has had to endure their youthful wrath. It's nice to know I am not alone. But, I do understand why animals eat their young! And for those that are wondering, yes, I let them see their 13th birthday! Speaking of parenting, Dad's and kids, Mother's day is May 10th!My mom grew up in Japan. She told me stories of hard times growing up, having to live with relatives other than her own mother and later on how she hid in caves during bombing raids of WWII. She met my father during the occupation -- he was in the Air Force. Since the 50's, she's lived in the states and has been able to visit Japan as late as 2007. As a parent, I better understand the sacrifices we make for our children...wishing to hear a thank you every now and then and hoping, that one day, they will appreciate what we've done. Well mom, I'm here to say I do appreciate every thing you've done and every thing you still do for me today. You've kept a great home, made great dinners ( even though you always had a salami sandwich on the ready for my friends just in case!) and taught me to stop every once in a while to enjoy life. But mostly, you taught me it's okay to be wrong and to admit it. So, mom, I love you and Happy Mother's Day...from your #1 Son. | |

Learning to Fly
Rain, rain, rain. It seems that is all we've had lately. I know April showers bring May flowers, but now that its May shouldn't it stop.
I've noticed how much the weather outside can effect the way I feel and the way I interact with clients. Its really hard to put on that smile when the clouds are heavy outside, but much easier when the sun is shining. I had a customer comment the other day how happy I sounded on the phone when I answered her call and my reply was that the sun was out and I couldn't help it. That made me think about the way I allow the weather to effect even my tone of voice and my need to overcome the dreaded "weather effect". So next time you see those heavy clouds rolling in, put a smile on your face and let your inner sunshine come through. Watch out, smiles are contagious.

Marketing University E-Mail Marketing
- Looking for a great way to keep your name in front of your clients?
- Need to add to your direct mail campaign?
- Do you want to produce colorful newsletters, flyers and sell sheets without having to print them, fold them, address them and pay postage for them?
E-Mail marketing is a fantastic way to get your name in front of your clients. For as little as $15/month, you can email up to 500 of your clients as often as you want! Create several different templates to send to different client types.
Here at Peregrine, we have three different templates we use depending on who and what we're sending. Our Flights of the Peregrine (the one you're reading now) is our general newsletter. We have another one for just Ad Specialty monthly specials. And, we have a third one for a group of business people we provide information for.
And, if you're wondering if it works? Ask the Steak and Hoagie Factory. We created a coupon template for them that they send out once a week. Their after Easter special had a 25% coupon return rate! That's right, twenty-five percent! To help market the program, we designed:
- Point-of-Purchase (POP) displays for all their store's counters. These displays hold a full color 8.5 x 11 ad along with a pocket to hold sign up sheets. The counter folks can then have a contest for who gets the most customers to sign up!
- We added a simple link on the emailed coupons
- There's a sign up on their website as well
E-mail marketing. It works! It really works!

 CPR Heart Starters
Did you know 350,000 people die every year in the U.S. from Sudden Cardiac Arrest? Would you know what to do?
Learning Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) only takes a few hours of your time -- which can give someone else, a lifetime.
If you haven't taken it for a few years, CPR has changed. They've made it easier to learn, but more importantly, much easier to remember. And, you can learn CPR as a professional or a more simple course for lay people.
CPR Heart Starters also offers classes in:
· CPR for Adult, Children and Infants · AED certification (the 'shocky thing') · First Aid for people and now, for pets! · Wilderness training · OSHA as well as air and bloodborne pathogen courses
Give them a call or visit their website...and tell them Peregrine Associates sent you!

Business Cards Billy Lee Cox - National Banjo Champion!
What a cool card this turned out to be -- for a National Banjo Champion!
Since this was to be a surprise for Billy, his wife didn't have any photos to give us, so we were able to use our own stock photo house account to find a great shot! Using the warm colors of the picture, we kept the design simple, yet you know, it's all about the music!

Graphics/Design/Layout
Daniel Schwartz - District Justice Campaign
Dan Schwartz is running for District Justice of Warrington and Warwick Township and came to Peregrine for assistance in his direct mail campaigns.
We created three different mailer pieces, each having the same theme. Of course this was then carried throughout his other advertisements in newspapers and other printed media.
The theme was based on the US flag so we used that as a border as well as the 'ghosted' image in the background. This was accomplished using a white overlay at 85% - which allowed the flag to show in the background, but still kept the text readable.
And, to help make this mailer grab the recipients eye, we not only added graphics like check boxes and circles with red lines through them, we made these images 3D! You can see a larger image of it here!

World Wide Web
Peregrine Associates
It's up, it's live, it's complete!!!
Yes, you heard me right. No longer are we the shoemaker too busy to make shoes for our own children. After 23 years, we finally have a complete website with all the bells and whistles our own clients enjoy. Check it out!
All of the websites that we create for our clients use our very own Content Management System tool (CMS). In short, this allows you to edit the content of the website including text, graphics and photographs through an interface that's very similar to a word processor. Imagine being able to keep your What's News page, well, up-to-date -- all, without the need to purchase software or to learn html programming!
We also show off
- some of our favorite websites
- archives of our past e-newsletters
- list online catalogs for wearables and ad specialty items
- designs of marketing materials
- and even how-to's on photo retouching
If you have an existing website and would like to learn how to add our CMS tool, give us a shout! We'd be more than happy to give you a demonstration -- even over the phone!

-------------- Stranded car dilemma:
You are driving alone in two-seater car on a deserted road in blizzard conditions, when you see another car which has recently run off the road and into a tree. There are three people in the stranded car, none of whom is injured:
- an old friend, who once saved your life
- your childhood sweetheart greatest lost love
- an elderly lady
No-one has a phone. The likelihood of any more passing traffic is effectively zero. The conditions are too dangerous for people to walk anywhere. It is not possible to tow the crashed car. The nearest town is an hour's drive away.
The question is: Given that your car is just a two-seater, in what order should the stranded people be taken to the nearest town?
Answer in next month's newsletter!
