From the nest

Greetings!

Peregrine begins its 23rd year!!!

That's right! Peregrine Associates was hatched...err...born on January 1, 1987. Having started as a business that marketed products, today, we're a service that helps our clients market and advertise themselves!

We're very proud of our beginnings and how we've grown! From a nestling in a small home office to a showroom offering high-end services, our progress is much like our namesake, the Peregrine Falcon, which can reach speeds in excess of 200MPH!

Our clients are what makes us the success we are today. And we thank you for your referrals and hope to continue to provide you with the many services we now offer.

So Happy Birthday to us! We're not getting older, just wiser and more seasoned!

Thanks to all...and may 2009 bring Health and Success for you and your family!

Happy New Year!

 Learning to Fly

Happy New Year! One of the most popular resolutions for 2009 in a business sense is to become more green. That may mean a number of different things to each person.

The key words behind being eco-friendly are "Reduce, Reuse, & Recycle." While these terms are easily understood, they mean different things when associated with different materials.

Being green or eco-conscious can be as easy as starting to recycle. In most businessess just starting to recycle copy paper is a big step. We have a trash can set aside for only paper and on a weekly basis we take it to one of our neighboring businesses who then take it to be recylced. Many of your local schools have an outside bin where you can drop off paper for recycling.

I've taken the opportunity under Wearables, Ad Specialities and Printing sections to educate you about what "green" means in those industries. One thing I have learned is that surprisingly going "green" does not mean the item is going to create more "green" in your wallet. In today's market most environmentally supportive items are still more expensive than the alternative.

So while you  may not be ready to take a leap forward and go totally green, how about taking a tiny step (recylce/reuse that office paper).  Remember, in the words of Kermit the Frog...."It's not easy being green".

First Impressions continued...

Our recent articles have been about first impressions via the phone and in person. How many of you have actually called in to your office or looked at your personnel to see how they represent your company? With today's tougher economy, a potential client shouldn't be lost to sloppy behavior.

So, how is your presentation material? Did you put something together from an on-line service with pixilated graphics and poor layout just to get by? Is your business card professional in appearance? How about the folder you use to put it all together, does it have a big old label slapped to the front? Remember, how you present your marketing media is how you present yourself.

The additional cost to have your brochures, sell sheets and other advertisements professionally designed and printed can make the difference when vying for someone's business.

Think about this. When you visit websites that you've Googled, which company are you more apt to do business with - the one with sloppy looks and navigation or the one with easy to find products and a professional layout?

Delaware Valley College

Sometimes it's not how you market to get a client, but it's the continued marketing you do for your current ones that makes a difference. And, with Del Val College, that's exactly what they do.

Remember your first day on campus? Were you nervous? Excited? Or both? We've had the pleasure of working with them on projects that help incoming students and their parents through the campus orientation process with items such as full color folders, pamphlets, calendars, USB thumb drives and even follow up post cards to help every one through this trying process.

Embrace - 610.597.6195

Sometimes all you need is a photo and a name - and that's the idea behind this month's featured business card by Embrace Designs By G.

Embrace front
We photographed an original bracelet design, knocked out the background and added a special shadow effect. With the Embrace logo being elegant on its own, there was nothing else to add to catch the fancy of someone looking for custom jewelry.

Embrace backThe back of the card holds all the contact information.

So, if you're looking for custom bracelets, give Regina a call at 610.597.6195. And tell her we sent you!

ShearMagik logo

When creating logos, there are a few technical basics that should be followed that go beyond the question of whether the logo portrays what the company does.

#1) Vector artwork: When at all possible, the logo should be created as vector art, sometimes referred to as an EPS or Illustrator file. This type of graphic can be enlarged to any size and will always stay sharp. Perfect for those large banners!

Here, you can see the beginnings of the logo using the company name. The font chosen is called Exotc. For us seasoned folks, you'll recognize it from the Mary Tyler Moor Show!shear-1
#2) The wording was then modified. The "S" was extended into a point moving forward and the "c" was converted into scissors. Since they sharpen beauty salon shears, we wanted to help make the imagery clear.

#3) The final process was converting the vector art into raster (pixel) artwork. Here, we can add highlights and shadows to create 3D imagery.

World Wide Web
DOMAIN REGISTRATION ALERT!

Your "Domain" is the www.yourcompany.com. When I'm told by a ciient that they have their own domain name (whether they have a website or not), I check the registration information. 9 times out of 10, I'm the bearer of bad news having to tell them they have no rights/control over their own domain!

The person - and more importantly the email address - listed under the "Administrative Contact" section has control! If this isn't you, who is it? The person who did you a "favor" by registering your domain? Or is it an employee who one day may become a disgruntled one?

The administrative contact's email address is a security feature. When an attempt to change information (i.e. names on the account, server hosting, renewing the registration, etc.) is made, the email on account is contacted for approval.

So, if the person listed isn't happy with you any more, they can refuse the changes and, basically hold your domain name for hostage. I've seen the ransom as low as $70 and as high into the thousands!!!

To check the registration information, do the following steps:

#1) Go to GoDaddy

godaddy search button#2) Go to the "Start Domain Search" area - it's in the green bar to the right at the top of the page. It will look like this:

#3) Enter your domain. You don't need the "www.", just yourdomain.com.

#4) You'll see that the domain exists. Click "click here for more info". From here, you may get a screen asking for you to enter the code shown. Go ahead and do that.

#5) Scroll to the section for Administrative Contact. See who's name and email is listed. This is the person who has control of your domain.

If you have any questions or need help checking this out, feel free to contact us - 215.343.2499.

 Final Thoughts...
3 Fisherman (A little brain teaser)

Three fisherman decide to stay at a fishing lodge for the weekend. Upon entering the hotel, they are told the overnight stay is $30 for all three. So each fisherman takes out a $10.00 bill and lays it out on the counter, gets their key and retires to the room.

About five minutes later, there's a knock on the door. The counter person is there to let them know that he forgot there was a weekend special and that the stay for them would only be $25.00. He then handed them five $1.00 bills.
fish tempted
Each fisherman took one-$1.00 bill and gave the counter person a $2.00 tip for his honesty.

Later that evening, one of the fisherman started thinking out loud:
· Each of them initially put out a $10.00 bill = $30.00
· Each were given $1.00 back, meaning each paid the lodge $9.00 = $27.00
· They gave the clerk a $2.00 tip, which means their total outlay = $29.00

What happened to the last $1.00 from the original $30.00?

ANSWER: next month.

Answers from last month's quiz: #1) I saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus; #2) Christmas Past, Christmas Present, Christmas Yet to Come and Jacob Marley; #3) Oklahoma; #4) 364.
