From the nest
Greetings!
Happy christma-hanu-kwanza-kah!!! Never being much for political correctness, how about Happy Holidays! - Spending time with family, friends and certain relatives you see only once a year and then remembering why you've kept it that way!
- Making a list of who wants what and what not to give that you gave last year!
- Watching someone follow you in their car to your parking spot because the next closest one is about a mile away!
- Making sure the gift that you're re-gifting isn't the gift that came from the person you're gifting the re-gift to!
All kidding aside, I believe the holidays are about giving. Giving of your time and of yourself. How about volunteering one evening to help those that have less? Or putting together a food bag or dropping off a toy? My daughters at twelve don't always appreciate what they have, but we do make it a point to remind them by asking them to picture the face of a child that will receive a gift this year - because of them, because of you! We here at Peregrine hope that you, your friends and even those relatives of yours have a very, very Safe and Happy Holiday Season!-------------------------------------------------------------------------- Peregrine Associates has joined the Toys For Tots campaign and we now have a drop off box at our office. We feel so strongly about this that we're offering a 10% discount on any order placed before December 15th with a donation of a toy worth at least $20 retail. And, if you don't have an order to place, why not drop off a new, unwrapped toy for someone less fortunate. You'll make some child very happy and you'll feel good about it too! | |

Learning to Fly
Its hard to believe that another holiday season is upon us. I remember my parents always saying how quickly time goes by and I can see that now in my own life. Wasn't it just last month that we were shoveling snow!!!
As quickly as time passes in our personal lives, it can also catch us unaware in our occupations and business goals. I can't tell you how often the phone is ringing with people asking if they can still place orders for holiday gifts or perhaps use up money in their budgets which disappears come January 1.
Just to give you some idea of time frames when placing orders:
- Wearables - 2 to 3 weeks for embroidery or screen printing
- Wearables - 2 to 3 days for blanks or transfers
- Printing - 10 to 14 days for brochures, business card, etc.
- ASI - 2 to 3 weeks depending on location of manufacturer
So, remember how quickly time flies and mark your calendars ahead of time so you won't be caught missing your goals and deadlines.

Marketing University First Impressions - Greeting a Client
Last month we talked about making a first impression via the phone. How many of you actually tried calling your own office to see how it's answered?
This month, let's talk about first impressions in person! How you greet a client that visits your office or store is just as important a first impression -- maybe even more.
Now, they not only hear your voice, they see how you're dressed and present yourself:
- Never ask "How can I help you". Many a sales research has shown that there is an automated response of "No thanks, just looking". Try something different, like "Hi, my name is Robert, how are you today?"
- Get up, out of your seat to greet your guest. Let them know you appreciate their visit.
- How's your handshake? A great deal is told about you by the way you shake someone's hand. Too weak? That's no good. Too strong and they may feel you're trying to overpower them. And, in today's business world, it's absolutely acceptable for a woman to shake a man's hand.
- Are you dressed for the type of clientele you receive? I have visited many offices where the clients dress better than the sales staff. Jeans, t-shirts, sneakers...is this the impression you want your business to project?

Business Cards MFS Financial Services
Not every business card needs to have contact information on the front. Sometimes, the impact we're looking for comes from just placing a great logo and graphics on the front!
We took advantage of the fact that we can print on the back of our full color cards at no additional cost by placing all of Martin's information here.
In fact, we can even print the back as matte, so you can still write on it with a ball point pen.

Graphics/Design/Layout
Making Metal Plates out of Pixels
Creating the metal plate effect for Steak and Hoagie Factory took a bit of pixel manipulation!
Step #1: Here are the basics to start with. The flat logo has been placed on top of a gray plate that was made to look like brushed aluminum. If you look at the top left corner, you'll also see the beginning of the first bolt.

Step #2: We've added a simple highlight/shadow detail to the bolt to make it look 3D and then created what is called a pillow emboss to the logo giving it the appearance of being 'pushed' into the metal.
Step #3: The other three bolts have been added along with a highlight/ shadow detail that creates a cloisonne effect for the logo.
Step #4: Finally, the addition of the diamond plate and shadow behind the brushed plate completes the effect!

World Wide Web
Steak and Hoagie Factory
Check out their new website, updated with a whole new look!
Steak and Hoagie Factory realized it was time to update their old website and add new features. So keeping with the factory theme, we took away the brick and added diamond plate as well as a conveyor belt.
We also started from scratch with the remodel of the website, asking why visitors would want to go to the Steak and Hoagie Factory's website? The answer - for the menus from the individual stores, coupons and the phone number/address of each location.
We made it real simple to find any one of these.
Another part of this site's unique property is that each store can edit their own page using individual usernames/passwords. This means they can use the Content Management Tool (CMT) to update their own store coupon and copy without disturbing the balance of the site!
Hungry? Visit the store near you, print out their coupon and place an order!

Final Thoughts...
How much about Christmas do you know?
1) Child star Jimmy Boyd sang which hugely popular 1950's Christmas song, which was initially banned by the Catholic Church in Boston because it supposedly mixed sex and Christmas?
2) Who are the four ghosts in Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol?
3) Which US state in 1907 was the last to declare Christmas a legal holiday?
4) How many gifts are given in total in the song The Twelve Days of Christmas?
Answers in next month's Flights of the Peregrine!
