Quality is like buying oats...If you want nice, fresh, clean oats, then you must pay a fair price. However, if you can be satisfied with oats that have already been through the horse ---that comes a little cheaper!With that said, I have a story to tell. A gentlemen visited our office looking for screen printed t-shirts. When we gave him pricing, he advised that he was able to get them cheaper elsewhere. We asked to compare apples to apples, he felt that all was the same, so we told him it sounded like a great deal! He did ask if we would lower our price. We politely told him we would not be able to do so. Three weeks later, he was back. The other printer had yet to screen his shirts and his event was that coming weekend. A quick call to the shop - along with some offers about first borns - and we would be able to get the job done. All, without a rush charge! So, what did he ask? You guessed it. He wanted to know if we'd match the price from the other vendor! Remember: Price, Quality, Service...pick any two! No, in today's economy, believe it or not, it's not just about price. It is about service and the quality of that service. With voice mails, e-mails and automated tellers, we want the human element! Companies that are offering that are staying ahead of the crowd! That is the secret to today's success! So the next time someone asks you to lower your price, ask them if they are willing to have less service. And, if you're wondering about the gentlemen, we didn't do the job. He didn't feel the 50¢/shirt extra we were charging was worth the better service. In fact, the last time I saw him, I think he was looking for a broom!

Learning to Fly
I asked if I could be a guest writer in "From the Nest" and the next thing I know, I have my own column! The hardest part was coming up with a title. Learning to Fly seemed appropriate since this past year and a half has been a learning experience for me as to what makes Peregrine Associates unique.
My background is providing the marketing, advertising and PR for a multi-million dollar company for over 20 years, so moving to Peregrine was a big step for me -- as I assume is leaving the nest and learning how to fly. I totally agree that three of the most important aspects of Peregrine are Price, Service and Quality. But I would like to add another factor to that -- Relationships.
I've learned over the past months that Relationships are what sets us apart from many of the larger companies. Peregrine Associates doesn't advertise in the newspaper or have big billboards announcing what we do. We would rather spend our efforts on getting to know our clients and making sure they are satisfied with every thing Peregrine does. We count on you to send us referrals simply by talking about our company and your experience with us. Our goal is to get to know each one of you so that we can personalize your marketing and advertising efforts. Whether it is a new website, brochure or give-a-way -- we want it to reflect you and your business.

Logo Design: Today's Dental Care
 There are several steps in designing a logo. It just can't be pretty, it has to be functional for print and web.
First: the original should be created as vector art in one color. This type of file can be expanded/enlarged without any loss of quality. And, it should be able to stand alone as a one color print.
Second: after the original design, multiple colors can be added.
Third: now we can 'jazz' it by creating a raster image made up of pixels. This allows for the use of shadows and highlights to create 3D effects. But, raster images are size and resolution dependent.
Finally, think about this. If it's necessary to explain a logo to someone, maybe you need to reconsider the design?

What's in a name?
When listing your own domain name, go ahead and use upper and lower case lettering. Now a days, most browsers will accept addresses typed in this way and it makes it easier for your clients to remember your website.
