B. Two California wines scored top awards in an international wine tasting
A shocking thing happened: at an international Paris tasting in 1976, French judges picked two California wines (Stag's Leap Wine Cellars 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon and Chateau Montelena 1973 Chardonnay) as the best. They even thought these were French wines. This event launched international interest in California wines.
