Paso Robles Press With the opening of Paso Robles' first
personal wine storage facility, Safe Haven, Corrine and Daniel
Appelbaum are offering wine collectors, wine country travelers and
wineries a way to protect their liquid investments and preserve their
fine wines for years to come.
Self-described "cork dorks," the
pair recognized the need for such a facility after they moved to Paso
Robles from the Bay Area and needed a safe place to store their
collection of wine. Safe Haven opened for business on June 27 and in a
few short weeks the facility has generated a lot of positive notice.
"Everybody that we have spoken to in the wine community has been
extremely supportive and very excited that we are here," Corrine said.

Meet Winemaker, Cameron Smith
Please join us this Thursday, September 18th at 6:30 pm for this special tasting. Cameron will be pouring a 2007 Lagrein from San Luis Obispo County. The Lagrein grape is originally from the Dolomite Alps of Trentino in far northern Italy. Cameron's visit is the first in an ongoing series of private events open to members and their guests. We encourage you to bring guests along to experience Cameron's wines, only available through the winemaker. We can accommodate up to 60 people, so please RSVP to Corrine at 238-7233 or email Corrine Appelbaum to reserve your space today.
Cameron will also be preparing food to accompany his wines, so we would like to know how many people to expect. If you would like to bring an appetizer or bottle of wine to share, it is appreciated but definitely not expected. We look forward to seeing you soon! |

Have You Taken Your Wine's Temperature Lately?
We are often shocked to discover how people will take greater care in storing a carton of milk than they do their more expensive wines. How to ruin a fine wine? Temperature swings, low humidity, light exposure and vibration will always do the trick! So if you know someone who is storing their wine collection under the stairs, in a closet or garage, please encourage them to find out how easy and cost effective it is to provide a "Safe Haven" for their gems.

Winery of the Month - Locatelli
There's a little gem of a winery you should know about, located in San Miguel called Locatelli Vineyards and Winery. This family owned, estate grown vineyard offers some of the finest Bordeaux blends and single varietal wines we have had recently. Their attention to detail starting in the vineyards plays out beautifully in each glass of wine. Some of our favorites are: "Melodia" a Zinfandel and Petite Syrah blend. The expressive nose of this wine is comprised of dark plum, violet and vanilla notes. With the tons of berry fruit present throughout, this is an excellent accompaniment to roast leg of lamb. Another favorite of ours is "Cielo Rosso Red Heaven", primarily a Cab/Merlot blend. This one is big on fruit with blackberry, black pepper and a hint of of old-fashioned rose and a lingering honey finish. Plus they have a very cool family history! Their tasting room is located in the vineyard and is open Friday through Sunday, 11:00 am - 4:00 pm or by appointment. Check them out at www.locatelliwinery.com or call 805-467-0067 for more information. You won't be disappointed!
