Congressman Flake to Speak at March Luncheon
By Kathy Tilque, president and CEO

The Gilbert Chamber hosts an annual meeting with Congressman Jeff Flake and this year's luncheon will be held on March 25th and sponsored by SRP.

Congressman Flake brings news from the nation's capitol and will discuss specific topics of interest to our members - job recovery, economic stimulus plans, healthcare repeal/reform efforts, and taxes.  This year we will also hear about his plans to run for Senator Jon Kyl's seat. Audience members will have an opportunity to ask questions of the Congressman as well.

In the aftermath of the Tucson shooting, Congressman Flake will be able to talk about how public appearances and security measures have been changed and what we can expect in the future.

"Congressman Flake has been a true friend of business," said JW Rayhons, chairman of the board. "We always look forward to his candid discussion about business issues and his unique ability to work important issues with both sides of the aisle."

Members are encouraged to bring specific questions for the Congressman.  "Congressman Flake enjoys talking directly with business owners about what issues are of most importance to them and how he can take our message back to Washington," said Rayhons.

Information on registration can be found online at www.gilbertaz.com.

Members Asked to Partcipate in Annual Survey
By Kathy Tilque, President/CEO

The Chamber's Board of Directors meet in April each year with committee chairs and staff members for a full day of strategic planning and to evaluate the programs and services currently offered. This day also provides the Board extra time to explore new opportunities to provide value to our members.

To assist the Board in meeting your business needs, we are asking for your feedback.  It is very easy; just complete the member-only online survey that was emailed on March 3rd.

If we are doing a great job with something or if we can improve specific programs or events let us know. Our goal is to continually improve our products and find ways to engage you and your business in the Chamber, as well as the community. Engaging you in programs you find of value, building important business connections, and providing products to save you money and grow your business. If we are missing something - let us know!

How they Voted-Medical Marijuana Ordinance

The Gilbert Chamber participated in a stakeholders' group to discuss an ordinance that would comply with the new state law that would allow medical marijuana dispensaries and cultivation sites. The new ordinance will limit locations to Light Industrial and General Industrial zoning areas and restricts distance from schools, hospitals, parks, day care, place of worship and residential boundaries. Also included were licensing restrictions and hours of operations. The Chamber felt the ordinance passed the fair and consistent meter compared to other ordinances and supported the ordinance. A yes vote listed below indicates support for the ordinance and Chamber position.
