The fall time is upon us, it is getting colder and it is less and less unusual to see the fires coming alive in the fireplaces. For those of us that can still get out to the countryside, we can see large mountains of leaves that are burning away. Until recently, when laws were passed against it in the towns, one could see the burning of leaves there too.
 
We normally associate ashes with death, in a sense we see them at the opposite end of the succulent life that springs up in the summer.
