The over-the-counter cough and cold medicines have undergone quite a turmoil lately when after years of debate it became clear that the cough and cold medicines sold in pharmacies are not only ineffective in general but they may be clearly toxic to children under six. The Consumer Healthcare Products Association, an industry group which includes Johnson & Johnson and other giant manufacturers, recently agreed to put a "do not use" warning on cough and cold medicines that are geared to the pediatric population.
Disturbingly, there is still a wide inconsistency in labeling among the products that are being sold in this category. Not all bottles missing the appropriate warning have been recalled by the industry so that it is entirely possible that a product could be found on the shelf of a pharmacy with a warning label and without one.
Astonishingly, no alternatives are being given in the major media outlets even after long articles exposing these problems. Well, perhaps not quite so surprising considering the general predilection for chemical products that are found in those places.

TrueBotanica has always been very proud of its Elderberry - Thyme Syrup™. We have seen it used with great success for both the immediate need to reduce coughing and sooth a sore throat, but also we know ofinnumerable people who have taken about a teaspoon or so every day for the duration of the winter season in order to reduce the chance of getting the flu in the first place.
By the way, the same increase in prevention and resistance is being attributed to taking 1000mg of vitamin D daily (more about this in our next newsletter).
