Spring is right around the corner! Why not commit to "springing" into a healthier new you this season? To help you take a proactive role in your health, we are happy to introduce an extraordinary technology. Dynamic Thermal Imaging will be at One Life on March 31st and April 14th performing Thermography scans. Time slots are filling up quickly, so call today to reserve a time. With increased popularity and demand, we are hoping to make this a regular feature.
Chiropractic has always distinguished itself as being a preventative model and thermography is a very comfortable fit. I had a full-body scan performed about a month ago and I can't begin to describe the peace of mind that I now feel. I truly believe this scan is life-saving. This type of diagnostic is highly accurate and can show areas of concern 8-10 years before even being detectable on traditional imaging such as x-rays, mammograms, needle biopsy, CT's and MRI's.
How many of you have been down this road before: your health slowly starts slipping away. At first it is harly even noticable. You might even make excuses like, I am getting older or I have been through alot of stress lately. You start comparing yourself to relatives or co-workers; it must be normal to have aches and pains, difficulty sleeping or fatigue. Eventually, your symptoms start to take more of a front seat in your life and your concern rises, so you reluctantly head to your general practitioner who performs a blood work-up and maybe some imaging studies. They all come back "normal", "within range" and the doctor sends you home (maybe with a prescription for depression). Maybe your concern is eased for a little while, but you still don't feel like your old self and there are activities that you can't participate in due to lack of energy or discomfort. Now what?
Don't give up, Functional Medicine holds the answer. Functional Medicine is a wholistic approach to health that dictates that the whole is greater than the sum of it's parts, meaning true health is more than merely the absence of disease or symptoms. Functional Medicine tells us to look at a combination of factors that can contribute to a gradual unwinding of overall health and longevity. These factors might include structural alignment, environmental exposure, nutrition, electromagnetic pollution, sources of toxicity, allergies and sensitivities, and emotional or social relationships. This type of medicine understands the complicated interconnectedness of all bodily sytems and how to restore balance by removing interferences and replenishing the missing pieces. Functional Medicine practitioners order different tests that show how the body is living and breathing such as thermography and surface EMG. These tests show early signs if dysfunction or imbalance and allow for early intervention and monitoring of progress.
If you haven't already, schedule a thermography or spinal scan today. We will be happy to create an individualized treatment plan for you. If your health history has changed, schedule a consultation to discuss treatment options.
Happy Spring everyone!
In good health naturally,

Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging: A Crystal Ball for Wellness
If you had information today about what is likely to occur in the next ten years, what would you do with it?
Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging (DITI) provides you information regarding your health outlook for the next decade. It is a non-invasive clinical imaging procedure for screening and detecting a wide variety of diseases and conditions including cancer, fibromyalgia, RSD, inflammation, various injuries, digestive disorders, arthritis, and dental conditions. A small camera detects the heat radiating from the body and converts the energy into an image that can be viewed on a computer. The images are then sent to a group of doctors certified in thermographic radiology for interpretation of images for asymmetries. Results are mailed within a few days for the doctor to review with the patient. Diagnostic tests like X-ray, C.T. Ultrasound and MRI measure the structure of the body. DITI shows physiological changes and metabolic processes.
Where's the research?
Below are some key points taken from chapter 25 of the 2006 edition of The Biomedical Engineering Handbook, Third Edition, Medical Devices and Systems. The numbers speak for themselves:
- In 1965, infrared imaging was introduced to the United States.
- Over the past fifty years, over 300,000 women have been study participants in infrared imaging of the breast - some of these studies have followed patients up to twelve years.
- An abnormal thermogram is TEN times more significant as a future risk indicator for breast cancer than a first order family history.
- Thermography has an average sensitivity and specificity of 90%.
- When used as part of a multifaceted approach (for instance, exam + mammography + thermography) 95% of early stage cancers will be detected.
How is cancer detected?
Angiogenesis is the formation of new blood vessels. In the early stages of tumor growth, precancerous and cancerous cells release angiogenesis factors (AF) causing existing blood vessels to resist constriction. This allows a steady supply of nutrients to the tumor. As the tumor increases in size, more nutrients are needed. AF opens dormant blood vessels in the breast. Once the mass outgrows the blood supply provided by existing and re-opened vessels, AF forms new blood vessels that connect the tumor to nearby arteries and arterioles (small blood vessels that branch out from arteries). The vast increase in blood supply produces more heat and vascular asymmetry seen in infrared images.

What's the bottom line?
Knowledge is power. Early detection allows for early intervention. Using every resource possible including Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging, nutrition counseling, lifestyle modifcation, and chiropractic care aids in alleviating symptoms, correcting dysfunctions, and increasing overall health and wellness.

The Significance of Re-Exams
Spinal scans are used to detect and pinpoint abnormal function in the spine that cannot be seen on X-ray. Just a small amount of pressure (equivalent to the weight of a dime) can negatively impact how your nervous system communicates with itself and other systems in the body, regardless if symptoms are present. Blood vessels work as the body's thermostat, contracting to retain heat and expanding to release heat. Blood vessels are controlled by the autonomic nervous system, the same part of the central nervous system that runs your organs and glands. Subluxations (spinal misalignments) disturb communication between the nervous system and the blood vessels, causing dysfunction in the regulation of the body's temperature. The Thermal Scan measures any imbalances in temperature along the spine. The Surface Electromyography (SEMG) Scan measures how well the motor nerves are working by reading the amount of electrical current found in the muscles. Subluxations cause an abnormal amount of electrical current to flow to the muscles on either side of the spine. This imbalance results in muscles that become weaker or stronger, tighter, or fatigued. Your body can be malfunctioning for months or years before you experience any symptoms. Symptoms are usually the last to show and the first to go. If you haven't had a scan in the past six months, please schedule a re-exam so we can see how your nervous system has been responding to your care. This will give us critical information regarding your need for ongoing care and if any changes need to be addressed, such as nutrition. |
