Greetings!
This month, I have titled our newsletter, No More Wishing, Waiting, Wanting. I'm all for dreaming big and setting lofty goals, but I think a lot of dissatisfaction comes from constantly wishing our lives away or wanting for more than we currently have in front of us. This sets us in a state or perpetual waiting for something to happen to us that could possible change things for the better. If we want things do be different, then we have to do the things that will bring us closer. As Darren Hardy of Success magazine writes, "Doing must follow wanting, believing, hoping, praying and planning."
As I have repeated year after year, I don't believe in making New Year's Resolutions. Lifestyle changes instead, promise long-term success. If you are less than satisfied with how 2010 turned out, it's time to ask yourself, why is that? In Conquer Your Critical Inner Voice, Robert and Lisa Firestone challenge us to ask ourselves whose life are we really living? Are our ideas of happiness and success really our own, or are they someone else's?
If you aren't living the life of your dreams, you're not alone. 81% of people believe they have a book worth writing. 6 out of 10 people want to lose weight. 85% or people are less than extremely satisfied with their jobs and 700 million people want to move to another country. (Success magazine)
We owe it to ourselves to stop hitting the proverbial snooze button on life. Start living today!
In good health naturally,
Dr. Kristy Allen

Trouble Sticking to Your New Goals?
40 to 45% of American adult make one or more resolutions each year.
The most common resolutions regard losing weight, increasing exercise, quitting smoking and better money handling and debt reduction.
The following research obtained from John Norcross and his colleagues shows how many of these resolutions are maintained as time goes on: - past the first week: 75% - past 2 weeks: 71% - after one month: 64% - after 6 months: 46%
While a lot of people who make new years resolutions do break them, it has been found that people who explicitly make resolutions are 10 times more likely to attain their goals than those who don't.
The secret? You can get to the top of a ladder most certainly and safely by climbing one rung at at time. Set small goals that you know you can achieve and focus on only that goal. Once achieved, look on to the next "rung", but ONLY that one. Before you know it you will have reached your goal!!
For help writing clear and detailed goals visit www.onelifechiropractic.com. We have provided a GOALS worksheet in the Patient Center under Online Forms. Also, don't forget about setting that appointment with Lisa Willis. She can help with prioritizing goals and time management. |

Going Back to the Basics of Human Health When I read this book, I immediately wanted all of my staff and patients to have this information! So often, the mainstream media paints a very one-sided picture of health in America today. We very often are only offered the information that farmers, commercial producers, pharmaceutical companies or the FDA wants us to hear. This book tells the other side of the story in regards to what has happened to our food supply and the direct relationship with our nation's health. This book is also packed with reputable references and research.
Here are some of the highlights:
Some ugly statistics:
- Americans spend the most amount of money on healthcare and yet we are number 14 on the list of healthiest countries.
- Americans are living longer with more long-term chronic illness.
- Diseases such as obesity and diabetes, which are directly related to lifestyle, are killing more than 500,000 Americans each year!
- It has been predicted that today's children will be the first generation not to outlive their parents.
So what is happening?
Our food isn't what it used to be and we aren't eating the same foods that primitive cultures, with far less disease, ate.
- Due to the industrialization of farming techniques, today's topsoil is depleted and sterile. That means that our produce today is less nutritious. For example: to get the iron that was available in 1 cup of spinach in 1945, today you would have to eat 65 cups! Similarly, an orange in 1945 contained 50 mg of natural vitamin C complex. Today's orange yields only 5 mg.
- The commercialization of food is most concerned with increased production and shelf-life, hence the chemicalization of food. Children are being raised on foods containing preservatives, additives, growth hormones, antibiotics, artificial color, artificial sweeteners, and pesticides. Did you know that there exists potato and corn seeds that are genetically modified to contain pesticides within the plant itself?
- Our food is medicated: Farming techniques combined with mass production methods leaves our food supply dead; void of the live nutrients that once were. In response, companies have made an attempt to add nutrients back in, hence the phrase "fortified." Unfortunately what is added back in are also synthetic,mass-produced fragments of nutrients.
- Anything synthetic, or man-made is viewed by the body as foreign, similar to a drug or a chemical. Synthetic vitamins are void of trace minerals and enzymes which are required by all of the life-sustaining bodily processes. Without these vital nutrients, health problems such as vitamin deficiency, heart problems, infectious diseases, bowel disease and toxicity occur.
- The FDA behind the scenes: Special interest groups heavily influence governmental regulation. From it's very inception, the FDA has made decisions based on commercial interests. Dr. Wiley, one of the founders of the FDA was quickly fired for being too much of a purist after filing suit against Coca Cola to prevent an artificial product from hitting the market. He stated, "no food in our country would have any trace of benzoic acid, sulfurous acid, sulfites, alum or saccharin, save for medical purposes. No soft drink would contain caffeine or theobromine." Dr. Wiley also made an early opinion about the adulteration of flour. He stated, "No bleached flour would enter interstate commerce. Our foods and drugs would be wholly without any form of adulteration and misbranding. The manufacturers of our food supply would devote their energies to improving the public health by the production of whole ground, unbolted cereals and meals. The health of our people would be vastly improved and the life greatly extended." Perhaps he predicted the gluten allergies we are faced with today.
So what do we do?
As consumers, we need to stay informed and conscious about what we put into our bodies and why. The very early founders of nutritional research saw a direct correlation between disease and the introduction of commercialized foods. These pioneers' studies repeatedly proved that refined carbohydrates and sugars cause tooth decay, diabetes, arthritis and other degenerative diseases. Heart attacks, which began sweeping the nation in the 1920's were associated with vitamin and mineral deficiencies associated with the introduction of refined foods. They warned that refined oils (trans-fats or hydrogenated oils) would cause weight gain, high blood pressure, heart disease and hormone imbalance. We need to eat like our early ancestors did; consuming foods in their unadulterated states. Primitive cultures also consumed produce and animal proteins in their entirety. So unless we are willing to eat beet greens, bone marrow and lard, proper supplementation is a must! To address this concern, Dr. Royal Lee formulated an entire line of supplements which are unadulterated whole foods condensed in a tablet form. The definition of supplement means in addition to an already sufficient diet and exercise regimen.
If you, like most are overwhelmed by the amount of products out there that boast some miracle results, come in today for a personalized nutritional consultation. We are here to make sense of this subject!
