Greetings!

It's that time of year again! Summer is winding down and the kids are going back to school. Our September newsletter focuses on how to keep kids strong and healthy to perform their best when returning to classes and extra-curricular activities. Below is information on treatments that pertain to immune strength, attention and focus, allergies and sleeping through the night.

Adults can benefit too! If you are a parent, this information is important for you too. We all know all too well that once the kids spend their days in contact with classmates, they bring home whatever germs and contagions are being passed around.

This year, we need to pay special attention to a recent news headline: The Swine Flu. While it's existence and level of severity is still left to be determined, what healthcare experts agree on is that there is cause for concern, not panic. To address this, we are going to be ready. Our shelves are lined with helpful preventatives to boost our immunity and also address symptoms of the flu from body aches, nausea and respiratory distress. We will be promoting products this month that no medicine cabinet shoule be without.

 In good health naturally,

Dr. Kristy Allen

Welcome Candy Walti, C.A

We have a new face around the office!

Candy Walti joins our team as our new tableside Chiropractic Assistant.  She'll be working in the afternoons on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays.  Please join us in extending a warm welcome to her.

She brings to our office over three years of tableside chiropractic assistant experience and has attended all of Dr. Eugene Charles' Applied Kinesiology courses.  Having attended several Brimhall Wellness seminars, Candy is very familiar with percussor and cold laser treatments.  Candy is finishing her studies with the National Institute of Whole Health to become a Certified Nutrition Educator.  She has two children, Liam and Mackenzie, and in her spare time enjoys reading, riding her bike, hiking, singing, and trying out new recipes on her husband and children.
Tips for Kids

Backpacks:
If your child's school doesn't offer a set of books to be left at home, a proper fitting backpack will be critical to their spinal health. There are many backpacks to choose from. We recommend the variety with 2 padded shoulder straps that is worn over both shoulders. A bag that also offers a strap to be fitted around the waist is even better.

The straps should be fitted tightly so that the weight of the bag's contents is carried over the mid-back just slightly below the shoulder blades. The bag shouldn't sag to waist height because it will put added stress on the low back as well as the neck. If the bag is too heavy, it is a good idea to take out heavier objects and carry in front of the body.

ADD/ADHD:
It is all too common. Your child goes back to school and within the first couple of weeks, you get a letter recommending that your child see their pediatrician to investigate ADD symptoms. Parents need to know there are options for those who would rather not put children on medications with dangerous and distracting side-effects.

ADD/ADHD is most often caused by an overwhelmed nervous system. Imbalances in posture, nutrition, toxic overload, allergies and sensitivities, or eye dominance can all cause misfiring between the left and right cerebral cortex in the brain. This mismatch in the way that information is exchanged can cause seizure-like activity that can make it difficult to sit still for long periods of time or to pay attention.

Chiropractic treatments are extremely effective for these conditions and don't have threatening side-effects like traditional medications that are prescribed. Ask about adjustments, detoxification, nutritional supplementation and eyelight therapy today!

Sports:
Because many illnesses in adulthood can be traced back to injuries in childhood, any child who plays contact sports, one hand dominant sports like racquet sports or golf, or even carries an instrument should be checked for spinal misalignments.

Regular care can also help with exercise induced asthma, to decrease reliance on inhalers and steroid therapy. In one study, children were able to decrease their medication by an average of 66% and attacks decreased by 45%.

Central nervous system rebalancing using cold laser therapy and eyelights also improves balance and coordination and increases reaction time for the competitive edge. Many professional athletes from baseball, football, golf and cycling seek this type of treatment to stay ahead of their competitors.

Colds and Flu:
As soon as the kids go back to school, it seems like the latest cold or flu comes home in their backpack.   There is good news for you and your family. Endless research concludes that children, as well as adults, who see a Chiropractor for preventative care experience significantly less illness.

Enhance your immune response with Chiropractic. A healthy nervous system is crucial to a healthy immune response. The nervous system is the "road" that the immune system uses to respond to an attack. Many people do not realize that regular chiropractic adjustments keep your "roads" clear. Those visits that keep your spine flexible and healthy may help you avoid the cold or flu this year

If the sniffles or a soar throat start to show up, there are 3 Nutri-West products that we recommend be in everyone's medicine cabinet.  T. Multimmune, T. Virx and Chewable C when taken at the very start of symptoms, can cut sick time in half! The ionic footbath will also help mobilize the lymphatic system to move infection away quicker.

As always, regular hand washing is the best prevention. Use warm water and a soap that is NOT anti-bacterial. Anti-bacterial soaps only kill weaker bacteria which leaves stronger, more resistant bacteria to thrive and multiply leading to antibiotic resistance.
