Chiropractic to Reduce the National Deficit?
With high hopes for better economic times right around the corner, for now, we are all looking for ways to save. President Obama in his recent National Address spoke about cutting healthcare costs as one of the most prominent ways ofo reducing the national deficit. His focus: Preventative Medicine! Finally, some national attention for what our practice has been preaching all along.
Research continues to show that those who use alternative medicine and exercise regularly live longer, healthier and happier lives. In the long-run, they also spend far less on medical crisis intervention or prescription medication in their later aging years. These same people miss far less days at work due to injury or illness and are shown to be more productive on the job.
With insurance companies continuing to cut coverage and increase out-of-pocket copayments and deductibles, we urge you to take a critical look at your health today. If it isn't what you would like, now rather than later is the time to get fit. If you consider yourself already in good health, let us talk to you about how to maintain the health that you have strived for.
Our focus this month is on physical fitness. There is so much that we can do right in our own homes to get fit and stay fit. 99% of disease is PREVENTABLE! Our health is literally in our own hands...we hold the power. We have a great line-up of events and special promotions to share this powerful information with ur patients and the community.
All month, Terry will be handing out our One Year at One Life anniversary offer when you check out following appointments. Please give them away to someone who could use this valuable message and help us spread good health and prosperity today!
In good health naturally,

AVOID ACHES AND PAINS FROM YARDWORK
Once the weather warms up, the inevitable happens...it's time to get in the garden. Besides mowing, you may have started raking, pulling weeds, carrying large bags of mulch, or digging big holes for planting. Yardwork can be hard work. It is important to warm up, take frequent breaks to stretch, and avoid repetitious motion.
Do one or more of the following every 20 minutes to prevent injury:
Neck exercises.
1. Slowly lower one ear to your shoulder. Hold it there for 15-20 seconds. Then repeat on the other side.
2. Place your hands lighly on the back of your head and gently press (not pull) toward your chest. Hold for 15 seconds. Repeat 3 times.
3. Neck rolls can also be useful if you go slow. Start with your ear on the left shoulder and then let your chin roll toward your chest. Finish with your right ear on your right shoulder. You don't need to go all the way around.
Shoulder releases.
1. Roll your soulders back, gently squeezing your shoulder blades together. Draw the shoulder blades toward your hips. Repeat 5-10 times.
2. Shrug your shoulders up to your ears & then slide the shoulders toward your hips. Don't let your shoulders poke forward. Slide them straight down. Repeat 5 times.
Low back stretches. (one of the best things to do is stand up periodically, bend from your knees, or sit on a stool, don't stay in a squatting position for long periods of time)
1. Cat stretch. Get on your hands and knees (you don't have to do this one if your neighbors are watching) and slowly round your back up toward the sky while inhaling. Move from your low back first. Then pull your shoulders down and slightly arch your back, reversing the motion. Keep your head in line with your spine. Repeat a few times.
2. Bridge. Lie on your back with your knees bent. Feet are hip width apart. Arms are by your side. Slowly tilt your pelvis & begin rolling your spine upward off the ground one vertebrae at a time. Stop when you have a straight line from shoulders, hip, & knees. Then lower down slowly. Start by holding your hips up and pressing the shoulder blades to the ground first, then let the rest of the spine follow.
Don't forget to stretch your fingers. Gardening is hard on the hands & wrists!
1. Relax the wrists. Let them go limp & then rotate them around in circles. Go both ways.
2. Spread out your fingers & then let them come back together.
3. With your fingers spread, touch each finger one by one to your thumb. Start at the index finger & then your pinky finger.
If you need more clarification, stop by the office and Rhonda, Alexis, or Dr. Allen will gladly show you the exercises. |
ACUPUNCTURE: IS SOMETHING PREVENTING YOU FROM BEING PHYSICALLY ACTIVE?
We know the obvious benefits of regular exercise: weight loss, appetite control, mangement of cholesterol, lowering high blood pressure and preventing Alzheimer's and other age-realted degenerative diseases.
Consider the benefits from a Traditional Chinese Medicine point of view: Exercise releases endorphins, which not only decrease pain, but calm the mind. Regular physical activity also keeps the Qi and blood moving throughout the skin, muscles, joints, bones, and organs providing nourishment to those areas to keep them healthy and functioning normally.
But what if a physical condition prevents even simple movement without experiencing pain or fatigue? Many people who have such conditions as fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, arthritis, digestive irregularities, migraines or asthma may be limited in their activity level. High stress, hectic schedules, irregular meals of processed foods, prescription medications, and jobs that are sedentary, can also contribute to fatigue and low energy.
Wanting to "get fit", they set off on an intense exercise regimine, only to find they cannot reach the goals they have set for themselves. The fatigue and pain may get worse leading to a further decline in activity. It's like trying to fill a gas tank that has a hole in it; until the hole is repaired, the tank will never be full.
If you have low energy, fatigue, pain or any other condition that is preventing you from an active lifestyle, or keeping you from doing the activities you enjoy, consider scheduling acupuncture treatments. By building a solid foundation, you can slowly and progressively increase duration and intensity of exercise, giving you the overall benefits of movement of increased energy, decreased pain, and disease prevention.

DR. KRISTY TALKS DETOXIFICATION
You've heard Dr. Allen talk about detoxification, but are wondering if it will work for you like it worked for her. Maybe your daily habits are different and don't think a cleanse will work for you. Hear from others that have successfully used both the 9-day and 30-day Isagenix Cleansing & Fat Burning Program to change their lifestyle. Some of the best reasons for cleansing are:
* to safely lose unwanted pounds & inches
* cleanse harmful impurities from your system
* burn fat & build lean body mass or muscle
* naturally reduce unhealthy food cravings
* gain energy & improve mental clarity
* reduce inflammation and pain syndromes
* gain empowerment over your health
* healthier self-image
There is going to be an Isagenix Presentation at Midtown Athletic Club, 200 E. Highland Drive, Rochester, NY 14610 on Thursday, May 7th at 7:00 PM. **you don't have to be a member to attend** |
SUPPLEMENTS FOR MUSCLE ACHES & PAINS Sometimes it happens: you overdo the activities that you love. If muscle aches are holding you back, don't reach for the ibuprofen or acetominephin. They have damaging effects on the stomach lining and the liver. We have healthier alternatives, like Total Inflam and Lyso-Lyph Forte which work together on inflammation, injury and pain. Kaprex works as a natural analgesic to reduce muscle pain. MyoCalm and MyoCalm PM are natural muscle relaxors for either daytime or nightime to help with sleep.
We also have supplements that support muscle function, and have tendon & ligament support. Ask Dr. Allen to test you for the following: Chondrocare for advanced joint support and protection, Fibroplex for energy producton and soft tissue tenderness, Cal Matrix for bone support & joint integrity, Collagenics with a high level of free form amino acids that support the growth & construction of connective tissue present in skin, tendons, ligaments, cartilage, joints, and bones, Alapars with nicotinic acid to restore rang of motion. | |
