The Mesa Verde Museum Association (tax ID 84-1404606) provides educational and interpretive material to visitors of Mesa Verde National Park through an active publishing program and the operation of retail bookstores online, in the park, and in Cortez, CO. Our services enhance the visitor experience and promote stewardship of Mesa Verde's world-renowned archeological resources and natural landscapes. Proceeds from all Association operations are donated to the park's interpretive, research, and education programs.

The Mesa Verde Foundation (tax ID 84-046967) funds capital improvements, projects, and educational endeavors for Mesa Verde National Park. Our projects include construction of a new Visitor and Research Center near the park's entrance and remodeling the existing Far View Visitor Center into a Tribal Cultures Center to enhance understanding of the connection between the Ancestral Puebloans and contemporary Native American tribes.

Lend a Hand (or Two) on a Mesa Verde Service Project

National Public Lands Day will be celebrated across the United States this Saturday, September 29, 2012. Many people will lend a hand to help the land and spend part of National Public Lands Day volunteering on work projects. Nationwide, more than 170,000 people are expected to plant trees, clean watersheds, remove invasive plants, replace signs, and otherwise beautify 2,000 public sites throughout the country.

Mesa Verde National Park is asking for volunteers to help revegetate the Chapin Mesa Picnic Area where utility work was done this summer. Volunteers will be spreading native grass and forb seeds, covering with mulch, and watering. They will also be transplanting small trees and shrubs. Additional work will include removing weeds and raking at picnic sites.

The National Park Service requests that volunteers wear appropriate clothing (sun hats, work gloves, long pants, closed-toe shoes), and bring drinking water, snacks, and a lunch. Lunch may also be purchased at the nearby Spruce Tree Terrace cafeteria. All work tools will be provided.

Volunteers are to meet at the Chapin Mesa Picnic Area located 20 miles inside the park at 10:00 a.m. Work will finish no later than 4:00 p.m.

All participants will receive a free National Public Lands Day t-shirt and a fee-free coupon for future admission to participating public lands.

Mesa Verde National Park will waive the admittance fee on Saturday, September 29 for National Public Lands Day (NPLD). Other Federal agencies offering waived admittance fees on September 29 include the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, the Bureau of Land Management, the Bureau of Reclamation, the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, and the U.S. Forest Service.

Normally, 133 national parks charge entrance fees ranging from $3 to $25. The other 264 parks do not charge for admission. The National Park Service will also waive entrance fees from November 10-12 in commemoration of Veterans Day.

We hope you’ll join like-minded Mesa Verde supporters this Saturday for a day of service! If you’re not in this area, you can find information about other NPLD service projects nearer to you at www.publiclandsday.org.
