The Mesa Verde Association is a joint membership program of the Mesa Verde Museum Association and the Mesa Verde Foundation. Your MVA membership supports both of these 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations.

The Mesa Verde Museum Association (tax ID 84-1404606) provides educational and interpretive material to visitors of Mesa Verde National Park through an active publishing program and the operation of retail bookstores online, in the park, and in Cortez, CO. Our services enhance the visitor experience and promote stewardship of Mesa Verde's world-renowned archeological resources and natural landscapes. Proceeds from all Association operations are donated to the park's interpretive, research, and education programs.

The Mesa Verde Foundation (tax ID 84-046967) funds capital improvements, projects, and educational endeavors for Mesa Verde National Park. Our projects include construction of a new Visitor and Research Center near the park's entrance and remodeling the existing Far View Visitor Center into a Tribal Cultures Center to enhance understanding of the connection between the Ancestral Puebloans and contemporary Native American tribes.

Now Showing: Canyon Voices II
The Grand Junction-based Art Quilt Association, in partnership with the National Park Service and the Mesa Verde Museum Association (MVMA), is exhibiting "Canyon Voices II," a juried show of handmade quilts reflecting a southwestern theme, in the Chapin Mesa Archaeological Museum Gallery. The quilts are also for sale, with a portion of the proceeds supporting the educational programs and services administered by MVMA. The show will remain up through November 6, 2010.

Shown above is one of the quilts on display, entitled "Message on the Rock," was made by Barbara Scott and photographed by Rita Faussone. Of her work, Barbara says her inspiration comes from the privilege of living in the Western United States. "The remains of ancient, mysterious cliff dwellers, the stark dryness of the vast desert, the colorful canyons, the spectacular cliffs and above it all the gorgeous, clear, blue skies give my spirit a place to soar and be free," states Barbara.

You can learn more about the quilt association by visiting their website at www.theartquiltassociation.com.

The museum and gallery is open daily from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Beginning October 17, both will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Free Park Entrance on August 14 and 15
The National Park Service will waive Mesa Verde and all national park entrance fees on August 14 and 15, 2010, to encourage Americans to visit our national parks. "This fee-free weekend provides an opportunity for individuals and families alike to take an affordable vacation or to explore a nearby park they have never visited before," Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar said. "I encourage everyone to take advantage of the free admission to visit not only our greatest natural wonders but also our nation's historic and cultural icons."

There are 391 national parks located across the country in 49 states; a complete list by park or state is available at www.nps.gov. The entrance fees being waived at the 146 sites usually charge for admission range from $3 to $25. There are 246 other parks that do not have entrance fees so you can plan a free visit year-round. The fee free waiver does not include other fees collected in advance or by contractors - such as fees charged for camping, reservations, tours and use of concessions.

For additional information please visit www.nps.gov or call 970-529-4465.

Every year thousands of visitors snap photos of the spectacular, world-famous cliff dwellings at Mesa Verde National Park. To help you capture the best light and perspective of these remarkable structures, the Mesa Verde Institute is offering its popular fall photography workshop led by Dr. Gene Balzer, Professor of Photography and Senior Faculty Member at Northern Arizona University.

The workshop is scheduled for October 15-17, 2010, and is limited to 13 participants to ensure everyone receives plenty of personalized coaching. The workshop begins at noon on Friday and ends on Sunday afternoon. For more information and to register, please visit the Mesa Verde Institute website at www.mesaverdeinstitute.org

Mesa Verde National Park is a photographer's paradise. During the workshop, participants will visit cliff dwelling sites during soft light and work on compositions of the Ancestral Puebloan architecture. The group will be in archeological sites at off hours and photographing at a leisurely pace. The workshops are open to both amateur and professional photographers using either digital or film cameras. From Friday lunch to Sunday lunch, the ARAMARK Mesa Verde Company will provide exceptional meals spotlighting sustainable foods and southwestern cuisine. These meals include two decadent dinners at the acclaimed Metate Room Restaurant. Workshop tuition also includes two nights' lodging at Far View Lodge, perched high atop Mesa Verde's majestic landscape.

The Mesa Verde Institute is administered by the nonprofit Mesa Verde Museum Association. Proceeds from the Institute as well as all Museum Association programs support Mesa Verde National Park. Mesa Verde Association members receive a 20% discount on workshop tuition and lodging.

Sally Cole, author and rock art expert, will give a free talk and slide show at the Anasazi Heritage Center (three miles west of Dolores on Highway 184) at 1 p.m. on Sunday, August 8, 2010.
