Compeer Funding News
|
Compeer is pleased to announce that we are the recipient of recent grants from First Niagara Bank's Mentoring Matters program, and The Garman Family Foundation.First Niagara's Mentoring Matters grant of $10,000 will support Compeer mentoring for children on our waiting list who are living in "high-need" neighborhoods who may have a history of abuse, neglect, or homelessness.
A grant of $25,000 from the Garman Family Foundation will fund our Compeer for Kids program in 2010, and will assist us in the recruitment, training, and matching of qualified and compassionate volunteer mentors with the over 400 children and youth currently on our waiting list. |

Compeer Volunteer Honored by NFL and United Way
|
Longtime Compeer volunteer Robyn Meyer has been recognized by the
United Way of Buffalo & Erie County's 2009 LIVE UNITED Volunteer
Spotlight program for her inspirational service as a mentor in the
Compeer Adult Program for the past 15 years. In recognition of
Robyn's commitment, the Buffalo Bills, through NFL Charities, have
generously provided a grant of $1,000 to Compeer of Greater Buffalo. Robyn's Story...I
have been a Compeer volunteer for the past (oh my goodness!) fifteen
years in the older adult program. My first friendship with my dear
friend Betty lasted ten years. Betty was, by diagnosis and outward
appearances, an individual dealing with serious and persistent mental
illness throughout her entire adult life. Her history included
alcoholism, homelessness and significant lengths of stays in
psychiatric facilities. However, and this is where the magic comes in,
to me she was my friend, my best friend....

A Learning Opportunity...
|
PBS is airing a series called "This Emotional Life." Check out their website to learn about depression, an illness that at least 17 million Americans experience each year. You can help an individual who is suffering from depression by becoming a Compeer friend to an adult or senior that needs support today!
