| Great Idea!

Ritsema Associates of Traverse City has found a unique way to use the United Way to help the community. They are paying an employee to volunteer while he recovers from a workplace injury. The advantage to the employee is he gets paid. The advantage to the company is they keep the employee engaged and happy. The advantage to the community is we get a productive, eager and useful helper. A win - win - win!

Our Interns United Way of Northwest Michigan has been fortunate to have two new volunteers helping us. This spring Kevin McClatchey, a MSU alum, joined our team as a volunteer Project Coordinator. He has helped us with organizing and analyzing past grant awards, developing fund raising strategies and creating a special project we hope to announce this summer.
Through a scholarship given by the Community Foundation Endowment Fund we are able to hire Elise Tarsa to work with us through the summer. Elise is a rising senior at St Mary's High School in Leelanau County. She will be working on a variety of projects including this September's Day of Caring.
