Greetings!
Greetings from Jerusalem! We have just come out of a very busy, but very rewarding, season here at MBKI. Passover reminds us of God's great love for His people. It is a reflective time, as well as a celebratory time. Families gather, and the older ones share with the younger ones the great miracle of Passover. We are reminded. We are sobered. Yet we sing, feast and celebrate and hope for the future. As you can imagine, Passover can be quite stressful for those less fortunate. The Passover Seder is a large meal with many symbolic foods that must be present on the table. For those struggling to make ends meet and simply put bread on the table, these extra pressures can sap the joy and hope right out of the holiday. Fortunately, we were able to offer some holiday relief this Passover... |
| HOLIDAY RELIEF | |
Each year, Dov's cell phone rings endlessly just before Passover. People in need are knocking on every door they can find to get some help for the holidays. In years' past, we have done what we could, but we always had to turn someone away - there just wasn't enough. However...
This year Dov was able to give grocery store gift certificates to
EVERY SINGLE PERSON who asked for help, in fact, we even have a few left over (as seen in the picture above). Thousands of dollars worth of gift certificates were handed out over a two week period preceding and during Passover. It was exhilarating. It was a miracle.
We were even able to extend our help beyond the borders of the neighborhood we work in. We had referrals from Dov's Border Police base of kids doing their mandatory army service for the State of Israel. They were about to head back to homes entrenched in poverty for the holidays, but thanks to G-d, we were able to give them food certificates to take with them.

| HOT LUNCH PROGRAM UPDATE | | We are pleased to announce that we have fulfilled our obligation to the elementary school and kindergartens that we work with concerning our Annual Hot Lunch Program! In total, we have fed over 100 students three hot meals per week for seven months. We want to thank everyone who participated in this program; without you it would not have been possible! We also want to send a special shout out to Pauly Kaszubski (pictured below) who pulled off an awesome benefit concert in Nashville, TN for the program. Dude, you rock!! |
| FIELD TRIPS | | | Field trips are a big part of the educational process at the schools we work with - trips to museums and historical sights are common throughout the year. However, each grade takes an "Annual Trip" each year that's a bit more extravagant. In fact the 6th graders' trip is an overnight camping trip that is a celebration of six years of togetherness and a bit of a farewell, as students will scatter to Junior High Schools all over the city next year.
In years past, we have been asked (by the schools) to provide financial assistance for students who live in the housing projects and would otherwise be unable to attend these trips. We have always done what we could to provide for as many students as possible.
This year, however, due to some very generous donations from friends, we have been able to provide assistance to every single child in need!! For those of you who gave: thank you so much!!
