HAPPY ROSH HASHANA
Greetings!

Greetings from Jerusalem!
It's the holiday season here in Israel.  We just celebrated our new year (Rosh Hashana), Yom Kippur is this weekend, followed shortly thereafter by Succoth.  With the exception of Yom Kippur (which is a fast day), food plays a huge role in the celebration of these holidays.  Markets and grocery stores are over-flowing with specialty food baskets and the season's best produce.

While there is a festive feeling in the air, there is also the grim reality that many families are struggling just to get by and these overflowing baskets of sweets and fruits that tumble out onto the sidewalks only serve to heighten the stress felt by many and magnify their lack.

One of MBKI's on-going projects is an Emergency Fund from which we purchase grocery store gift certificates that we hand out when dire needs present themselves.  This holiday season, we have purchased a couple thousand dollars worth of these gift certificates and have already begun to hand them out.

Dov's phone generally rings constantly during the holidays with people looking for help, and it brings us so much joy to be able to alleviate some of their stress and meet their very practical needs!

Without the donations that we receive, we would not be able to help these people, so we want to extend a hearty "thank you" for helping us to help others!

It is customary to eat apples and honey during Rosh Hashana to symbolize the hope of a sweet new year, so in that spirit, we would like to wish you and yours a very sweet year filled with joy!

Blessings from Zion,
