More like this....

Greetings!

Phew!  It was a non-stop 4 days at the 5th Annual European DIA Medical Information & Communications conference last week.  As a programme committee member, I probably shouldn't say this but we had such great topics & lot of opportunities to share experiences.

If you couldn't go, here's some of my thoughts on the several sessions we had on Globalisation.

We also had talks on Social Media in Medical Information (the e-patient from Paul Grant, Creation Healthcare and Viv Ball, Janssen on moderating their Facebook page on Psoriasis).  The final plenary session was on Social Media and the Pharma Industry with the legendary Alex Butler (ex-Janssen and now founder of The Social Moon); Paul Grant inspiring us with his presentation and a patient/carers perspective of social media from Dr Myriam Menter, President, ADHD Europe.

Audit Follow Up
Flipchart - Audit Follow Up group lead by Sarah Dunnett.

Peter Nacke, Vifor & I gave a high octane session on Internal Audit. Loved working with you, Peter!  High octane because everyone gave shared their experiences and ideas during the workshop part of the session.  Someone told me they didn't realise audit could be fun!  So, my task for next week - write up the outputs!!!! Here's a taster with the flipchart from the Audit Follow Up team.

And finally, did you know the new EU proposals on Information to Patients are out? I've shared my first reactions.   I hope you enjoy reading the brief synopses and links through to the fuller blog posts.

Have fun!

One Voice For MI - A Recipe for Success
Just how do you make the perfect Global Medical Information function? What recipe variations have all the great chefs and cooks tried and tested?

My recipe for success, based on experience and only lightly plagiarised from the great chefs attending the "Great Bake Up" of the DIA Medical Information & Communications conference track, Basel 2011.

Social Media in Pharma - the e-patient, trends and how to best engage.
I love mixing with the digital/social media crowd working in healthcare. I follow them on Twitter mainly but got to meet many of them in person at the recent Digipharm conference. They are so inspiring. I love that they share their ideas and comments through Twitter, blogs and Slide Share (a lesson for us there!). We had 2 speakers in Basel; Paul Grant from Creation Healthcare & Alex Butler, The Social Moon.  Through SlideShare, you can partly experience Paul Grant's reflections and ideas about the e-patient. In the plenary session, he went on to discuss the impact of social media on our industry. Alex Butler followed - here's his talk from the Digipharm conference 2 weeks previously.

Sharp bends on the road
EU Proposals on Information to Patients.  Some initial thoughts.
The EU Commission published their new proposals for provision of information to patients, including the model for pharma industry.  We've just gone round a sharp bend but there's still a winding road ahead. Some initial thoughts on the impact.

And some great links shared on my Facebook page.

1. Hooked on Angry Birds, Call of Duty  or Farmville? You're not alone (my vice is Plants vs Zombies). Gamification is big business and a way that companies can engage with their customers. So what about pharma companies? Those innovative guys at Boehringer Ingelheim have developed a new game for pharma. Save the world (so nothing small then)! Model clinical development and product launch with the game Syrum. As shown at the Digipharm 2011 conference.

2. Interesting UK PMCPA promotional code case on advertising to the public yet no breach of clause 2 (bringing the industry into disrepute) as Leo were let down by their agency.

3. Make sure your customers return. Top 10 tips for delighting your customers so they come back.  From Richard Shapiro, The Center for Client Retention (a regular at the DIA US Med Comms meeting).

SharonWho am I?

After leaving corporate life 5 years ago, I set up my own Medical Affairs consultancy and training business, believing that there wasn't much demand for either service.  Luckily, I proved myself wrong and now have a long client list from many large and small pharmaceutical companies.  I'm passionate about my business, Medical Information, social media, information to patients and all things geek.

I help busy managers succeed in their goals by
  • managing projects
  • training their staff on MI practice and leadership
  • mentoring managers new to Medical Information or Medical Affairs
  • helping them restructure their business

And now we build tools to monitor your customer's perceptions of your service.  You name it, I can probably do it.
