Welcome to the February edition of Going Green with EverGreen Concepts. This month at EverGreen Concepts we are ready to start thinking about Spring!  It's time to break the old habits and start checking out the great affordable ways you can improve your home.  It's not just about your home, but taking control of your surroundings.  Make a choice to incorporate healthy changes in all aspects of your life.  Plan your spring gardening project - start your first compost pile!  Bring some healthy cleaning products to the office to keep on your desk and share with your co-workers.   Talk to your boss about (a very small) investment in a bottleless water system for the breakroom - it brings a whole new perspective to the company water cooler.  I am always inspired to come up with new projects in the Spring and I look forward to sharing some of them with you.  Please keep an eye out for our new website, coming in March.  We appreciate all of the feedback and encouragement.  We look forward to seeing you at many of the green events around town - come see us at the Convention Center for the Home and Outdoor Show this week-end.

Quote(s) of the Month

"A perfect summer day is when the sun is shining, the breeze is blowing, the birds are singing, and the lawn mower is broken."

James Dent

"The activist is not the man who says the river is dirty.  The activist is the man who cleans up the river.  "

Fun Projects to Plan for Spring!

  1. Paint some old furniture using low voc paint.  I found some AWESOME retro wooden chairs at the Habitat Home Store and painted them silver - they look really cool!  EverGreen Concepts has 20% off of Sherwin Williams paint - click here to get your card.
  2. Plan a vegetable garden.  This is my new obsession, I want to grow my own tomatoes and herbs.  Start small and expand on your gardens each spring.  Learn about composting so you can recycle and fertilize at the same time.  Check out this great site for directions on making your own compost. Epa.Gov/Composting
  3. Replace your old carpet with easy to install cork or bamboo floors!  Start with a small room - we did a small library.  Cork is very easy to install, it floats, so there is no need for messy glues or nailing.  Bamboo can also be floated or glued down.  Best of all both products are sustainable and inexpensive!  Check out this carpet recycling website to find out if you can recycle your old carpet.  http://www.carpetrecycling.com/
  4. Start your spring cleaning early, go through all of your "junk" and see what you can fix up and re-use.  Take everything else to the Habitat Home Store or Goodwill - if you don't want it - someone will!
