  belly dancer
In this gathering Sacred Middle Eastern (Belly) Dance is taught with an honoring of the Deep Feminine.  We invite Mindfulness which offers the opportunity to witness our felt sense experience in the present moment.  The movements generate from within while we learn the outer dance.  Come join together in common unity through this ancient form of dance.

Included in our time together are:
A Movement Meditation that will stimulate and restore our centers
A mindful Moving Into the Body that is our essential resource
A joyful and spirit filled learning of the dance!

"The movements of Belly Dancing enable a woman to understand and experience a natural rhythm.  In this dance form, she swings her limbs around the center of her body around the navel of the world, through waves and swinging rhythmical movements of the pelvis, through movements older than any single woman, indeed older than human civilization.  The dancer gathers strength for her movements from her belly - the lower part of her body where her balance is centered.  She links her lower belly's center of gravity to the earth on which she dances and embeds it in her belly.  And every single movement, however tiny, longs to return to this center, the navel of the world."

Francine witnesses and draws from the many healing properties of this dance and deeply acknowledges the body as a sacred vessel, which carries spirit into the physical world.  Her passion and gifts are revealed in the dance as she teaches the age-old art with humor and love.

A Historical Perspective on Women's Body Image

Friday, April 16, 6 - 7:30
Cost $10/person or $15/parent-daughter pair.

Come alone, come with friends or come with your daughter (high school age and older), but do come!  This is an opportunity to look at a slide show presenting women's bodies from the first primitive statue to current times.  We will discuss historical and current cultural influences that literally shape women's bodies - or at least tell us which type is "in."

Presenter:  Lucia LiCavoli, Ph.D., founder of Clarus Center has worked with clients struggling with Eating Disorders and Body Image since 1988.  She has given presentations on Body Image to numerous audiences over the years, and is passionate about getting into a good dialogue about helping ourselves and our daughters live with confidence and freedom in the world, even if our particular body image is not "in" at this time.

There is great joy in the knowing and healing of ourselves
when we experience a full felt-sense presence in our bodies - a coming home.  We may have moved away from, or may have forgotten how  to move into this space - this body - that is an essential resource.  This movement journey invites us to remember, deepen,
and integrate our instinctual knowing.

IN THIS GATHERING WE WILL:
Establish mindfulness
Witness our inner experience through movement
Embrace the wisdom of our own dance
Embody our sense of self
Join in common unity

MOVING INTO THE BODY are  individual three to four hour workshops or weekly classes, which will move us into our bodies utilizing several movement methods that acknowledge the power of self- healing and the body's capacity to reveal.   We will engage in the practice of Mindfulness, which is the development of an alert inner quiet that allows us to witness our individual journeys gifting us with safety and a deeper awareness of our own inner truths.

Mindful Movement groups incorporate a number of movement methods and give us the opportunity to witness and track our inner experience in the present moment.  In all movement groups we create an environment for each of us to respectfully explore and savor our experience.

Being equal in "heaven" affects how women treat themselves and each other.  It also impacts how they are treated in the world.  What would it have been like to grow up in a world where the Divine was imagined to be female?

This four part series has been designed for women who want to explore our spiritual history to understand our present and personal experience as contemporary women.  Our goal is to use our past to create a balanced feminine spiritual force in ourselves and in the world that meets and welcomes the masculine and invites change and growth.

Please join us if this calls to you!

Facilitated by Marilyn Dam-Rabolt R.N.,M.S.N. and Shellie Willet-Kruchko, Ph.D.

An Introduction to Somatic Experiencing®
Learn about healing trauma naturally... without retraumatization

Friday, May 7,
9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
$45

Growing scientific evidence indicates that the dynamics of traumatic stress and its symptoms have significant biological components. Developed by Peter A. Levine, PhD, author of Waking the Tiger:
Healing Trauma, Somatic Experiencing® (SE) is a powerful yet gentle method for addressing the psychobiology of stress and trauma.

This 3 hour Introduction to Somatic Experiencing® provides a look into a training that offers a comprehensive understanding of our biological capacity to heal and the skills necessary to facilitate
this natural process. Clinical, medical, and health care professionals who deal with the aftermath of trauma can learn how to recognize and support this healing while greatly expanding your knowledge
base. SE® provides an entirely new way of understanding and treating traumatic stress. This bodyfocused approach integrates sensorimotor (body) processing with emotional and cognitive processing, thus accessing the trauma response at the core. SE® restores the ability to self-regulate and return to health and resilience.

ARIEL GIARRETTO, LMFT, CMT, has been specializing in the treatment of both shock and developmental trauma since 1993. She practices in the US, Europe and Canada as a somatic psychotherapist, a Somatic Experiencing® instructor and consultant. For 11 years Ariel was on staff at the Esalen Institute in Big Sur as a workshop and group leader, a private counselor and bodyworker. She has offered trainings to the Trauma Center at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital on secondary traumatization and patient PTSD prevention. Ariel has special training in pre and peri-natal trauma, early attachment and therapeutic touch. She has a successful private practice in the Bay Area of northern California.
