Clinical Perspectives on Sleep Disorders
with Dr. Ravi Nemivant

Free lecture

Friday February 12,  11am to noon

The National Institute of Health estimates that 20 percent of adult Americans suffer chronically from Obstructive Sleep Apnea (absent or blocked breathing while sleeping), and over 40 percent of people over 65 have this condition. But most people who have the condition don't know they have it -- because it happens when they're asleep.
During the last few years there's been much media coverage about this condition, because it's as common as adult diabetes and asthma. But is sleep apnea really a health-threatening problem? And if so, is there a successful treatment that everyone with the condition should be diligently applying?

Dr. Ravi Nemivant will address these and other questions in this free public lecture.  A dedicated and specialized physician, Dr. Nemivant brings pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine proficiency to his role at DuPage Medical Group. Dr. Nemivant's professional experience is highlighted by numerous teaching awards, research and being published in medical journals. His clinical interests include caring for the critically ill, asthma, cystic fibrosis, emphysema, lung cancer, thoracic oncology, all pulmonary diseases and adults suffering from sleep disorders - specifically sleep apnea and snoring.

Dr. Nemivant received his medical degree in 1998 from Rush Medical College in Chicago where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. In 2002, he completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Chicago's Rush Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center where he was intern and resident of the year. He was named Chief Resident in 2001-2002. He completed fellowship training in Pulmonary & Critical Care medicine at Loyola University Medical Center and Hines Veterans Administration Medical Center in Maywood from 2002-2005. He was named Chief Fellow at Loyola University Medical Center 2004-2005 and elected Fellow of the Year in 2005. Dr. Nemivant is a member of the American College of Chest Physicians, American Thoracic Society, American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the Chicago Thoracic Society. He is affiliated with Central DuPage, Edward and Good Samaritan Hospitals and is on the academic staff at Loyola University Medical Center.

 Mindful Movement
~ A joyful and spirit filled journey ~

A 'Moving Into the Body' movement group

SUNDAY ~   FEBRUARY 28, 2010
2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
COST:  $45
We begin promptly at 2:00 p.m. so please arrive by 1:45
This is a movement group.  No dance experience is necessary.

There is great joy in the knowing and healing of ourselves
when we experience a full felt-sense presence in our bodies - a coming home.  We may have moved away from, or may have forgotten how to move into this space - this body - that is an essential resource.  This movement journey invites us to remember, deepen,
and integrate our instinctual knowing.

IN THIS GATHERING WE WILL:
Establish mindfulness
Witness our inner experience through movement
Embrace the wisdom of our own dance
Embody our sense of self
Join in common unity

MOVING INTO THE BODY are  individual three to four hour workshops or weekly classes, which will move us into our bodies utilizing several movement methods that acknowledge the power of self- healing and the body's capacity to reveal.   We will engage in the practice of Mindfulness, which is the development of an alert inner quiet that allows us to witness our individual journeys gifting us with safety and a deeper awareness of our own inner truths.

Mindful Movement groups incorporate a number of movement methods and give us the opportunity to witness and track our inner experience in the present moment.  In all movement groups we create an environment for each of us to respectfully explore and savor our experience.

Francine Passias, CHT is in private practice in Chicago. She is Certified in Hakomi Experiential Psychotherapy, Advanced Certified Hypnotherapy, and is trained in Internal Family Systems Therapy, Matrix (Group) Leadership, Living Dance Seminars, Continuum Movement, and Somatic Release in Resolving Trauma. She teaches Sacred Middle Eastern Dance. She created Moving Into the Body and Embracing the Deep Feminine retreats, The Body as Resource (a unique support group for trauma survivors) and Mindful Movement classes.  Francine acknowledges the body as vessel which carries spirit into the physical world.
