7:00-9:30 PM
COST: $40 in advance-register at 630 334-7826
$45 at the door

The Mayan sacred calendar, the Tzolkin, was designed to bring humans into alignment with the universe. In a modern sense, this calendar helps us become more present in the moment and assists in the discovery of our soul's purpose.
In this hands-on workshop, you will learn how to become a "Daykeeper" (Mayan astrologer) using the sacred Tzolkin and authentic Mayan tools.
Course materials for this class are provided, so advance registration is recommended.
Barbara (BJ) Sadtler, RYT, MA, has spent significant time abroad, on her yoga mat, meditation cushion and computer keyboard. The content of this workshop stems from over three years of study on and with the Maya of Guatemala.

NEGATIVE PRESSURE MASSAGE CUPPING WORKSHOPS
presented by: Jesse MacLean

October 31st-Nov. 2nd
8:00-6:00pm

cost: $400.00

Cupping is a traditional, time-honored treatment remaining favored by millions of people worldwide because it's safe, comfortable and remarkably effective for many health disorders.  It's the use of suction, rather than compression for bodywork ranging from myofascia release to lymphatic drainage- and everything in between!  Cupping rapidly facilitates rigid soft tissue release, loosens & lifts connective tissues, breaks up and drains stagnation while increasing blood & lymph flow to skin and muscles in ways not possible using compression.

24 CEU Workshop covers:
-History  - Theory -  Benefits - Equipment
- Safety - Protocols - Biomagnetic Therapy
- Lymphatic and Fascia Systems  - Detox
- Reflexology and Facial Treatments

Negative Pressure stretches the tissues away from underlying structures, effectively changing the pressure and loosening joints, muscles and fascia. At the cellular level, it clears debris, delivers rich bloods, lymph and nutrients back to cells, tissues and organs-plus it really feels great.

Falling In
By Kelly S. Johnson, Psy.D
pumkins

Pumpkin patches, apple cider, morning frost, and vibrant colors usher in the fall.  October brings shared conversations over steaming mugs, strolls through parkways, and warm cable cardigans. The last hints of summer begin to ebb away as the ground prepares to turn inward, hibernating into itself in preparation for a new birth next spring. Fall is a wonderful time for a psychological inward turning, looking to gently examine what we value, what is in balance and what we need to alter. As I write this, with a delicious mug of chocolate nearby, and geese creating a cacophony in the nearby pond, I welcome what the season will bring.  Creating inner space for the sanctuary from which we will live our lives for the next six to seven months before spring peaks through again allows us to live our lives in rhythm.
We don't need to be a monk, an isolative writer, or a formal retreat-goer to experience this sanctuary. Creating intimacy with our deeper selves and connecting with our source of abundance, love, gratitude, beauty and strength deepens our capacity to live our lives fully and to be of service to others. Fra Angelico, a famous early renaissance artist and friar, who meditatively painted frescoes in Italy, used to say that "he who practiced the art of painting had need of quiet, and should live without cares or anxious thoughts" (Georgio Vasari).  We all are artists of our lives, carrying with us our own studios, and the palettes which we use to enter into the dance of life. With quiet, intentionality and a willingness to listen from within, we can discover, generate, and re-connect with the peace and contentment that is always present. Whether we're in a long line waiting to pick-up our children, raking leaves, or completing work projects, in each and every moment we can access our internal sanctuary. The task is where we put our attention and intention because whatever we focus on expands. Therefore, if strife is present in the home, or individuals frequently roar when a firm, but gentle request is all that is needed -- radiate the harmony you wish to embrace. If you want more beauty in your home and are repelled at what needs to be fixed, focus on what is already beautiful and expand upon that. If you frequently feel you don't have time to care for yourself, then look for ways that caring occurs (comfortable home, food, access to a computer)). Fortunately, none of us needs studios nestled in the deep woods, generous patrons, or galleries waiting to show our works. Each day, we share what we have and that has a ripple effect on the lives of all of those around us. Fall provides us with an opportunity to look within and discover what we wish to give birth to in the spring. "There is a time and season for everything under the sun."

Meditation Muse:
Into the Darkness
By Nancy S.B. Ging, LCSW
Nancy Photo

As much as we love and honor the light, great richness is found when we go into the darkness. Divinity, great love and wisdom can be found therein.  Wholeness requires that we go deeply into our inner world and find our connection with the Cosmic Mother.  The Earth has treasures of healing to bestow upon us when we enter the darkness.
Many years ago I learned from Matthew Fox, author of Original Blessing (and several other wise books), founder of Center for Creation Spirituality, that "any form of spirituality that does not include the darkness is a fake spirituality."  Truly, dark and light are meant to be the partnership which the cycle of day followed by night could remind us of continuously if we did not have a cultural prejudice about the darkness.  Going within has rarely been encouraged in western civilization and at what cost! Indigenous peoples honored the darkness -- Yin, the Feminine Principle - in ways that modern world forgot. The dark road, one of the roads to wholeness, has been ignored and this has caused a massive disembodiment in our culture. Experiencing our own emotions is not possible if we are not embodied. Descending into our bodies, our own personal plot of earthiness, is what this season in particular calls for.
Our psyche and our body longs for us to drink in the energy of the Earth and let it move through us.  We are not to hold on or hoard this Yin energy, but let it flow in and out, doing its healing work as we invite it into our body.  Where tension is present we are hoarding the energy. LET GO of it. Holding on, hoarding energy, is hazardous to our health - mental and physical.
Recently I attended a weekend workshop led by Reginald Ray, PhD, author of Touching Enlightment (2008) and SoundsTrue CD's on "Meditating With the Body.". From Reggie I learned a 10 point meditation.
To experience this, lie down on your back (I recommend you put a nice eye pillow over your eyes to darken and protect you for a few moments from the outer world. Notice how soothing this feels). Now bend your knees and put your hands on your lower abdomen. (It is extremely helpful and comfortable to tie a cloth belt around your bent legs just above your knees during this process). With your knees together place your feet comfortably apart -- several inches.. Now slowly focus on 10 points: each foot, the two sides of your derriere (delicate French word for butt), the mid-back, the two shoulder blades, the two elbows and the head as you let go of tension. Simply feel the earth under you. Absorb the earth into each of the 10 points. Feel each sensation that arises within your body. Notice the feeling of your clothes or whatever is making contact with your body. Stay with this process of feeling your body and noticing any emotions that arise for as long as you like knowing that Mother Earth is loving you, healing you, blessing you.

Acupuncture Helps Chronic Headaches According to Largest Study
by Ayesha Atique
 ayesha logo
A
German study published in the September, 2008 issue of Cephalalgia shows that people who suffer from chronic migraines may benefit from acupuncture to reduce the severity and frequency of their headaches.
The study is one of the largest to date on using acupuncture to ease headaches.  Researchers from Charité University Medical Centre in Berlin followed more than 15,000 adults who had been suffering from either migraine or tension-type headaches at least twice a month for a year or more.
Of these patients, 1613 were assigned to receive acupuncture in 15 sessions over 3 months in addition to usual care, while 1569 continued with usual care alone.
After 6 months, acupuncture patients reported significantly greater reductions in headache pain than those who continued with usual care.
Headache frequency fell significantly in patients assigned to acupuncture, from 8.4 headache days over 3 months at the start of the study to 4.7 headache days over 3 months at the end.
In contrast, headache frequency remained almost constant, at nearly 8 headache days every 3 months, in patients assigned to usual care alone.
"Our study has shown that treating patients with headache in routine primary care in Germany with additional acupuncture resulted in a clinically relevant and persistent benefit." Lead researcher, Dr. Stefan Willich concluded. "Therefore, acupuncture should be considered a viable option for patients with headache."

Brent Baum"New Breakthroughs in Trauma Resolution: Holographic Memory Resolution"

presented by:
Brent M. Baum, ICADC, LISAC, CCH.

FREE
October 15th
7:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.

This free presentation will introduce you to recent breakthroughs in trauma resolution. We will examine trauma, a process that happens at moments of overwhelm, and present new approaches to its resolution. Moving past a model that helps people cope after trauma, these techniques, which Brent has developed for over 13 years working with over 13,000 people, bring about direct resolution needed so that people don't just survive, they are able to thrive after disaster.

These techniques have been successfully used by clinical practitioners to help those with addictions, disorders or depression; returning veterans; emergency response professionals; and the survivors of natural and unnatural disasters, including those of Hurricane Katrina, the Oklahoma City bombing, and 9/11. Using a visual reframing technique and nervous system support, the goal is to work with the subconscious mind to release the emotional charge of the traumatic event. When the subconscious mind can feel safe, its protective hold on the original scene is released, which diminishes or resolves both the physical and  the  emotional  pain.

Join Brent Baum as he shares inspiring stories of survival and transformation, as he reviews the principles of body-centered, client-centered therapy, the physiology and dynamics of trauma induction, and the three levels of the trauma continuum. The hallmark  of  this  new  process, called Holographic Memory Resolution®,  is the  empowerment of individuals as they develop their own internal resources for resolving the pain of traumatic memory.

The cost is FREE but registration is required.

A Post-American America?

presented by Jim Kenney of Common Ground

jim kenney
Sunday, October 19
1:30-3:30 pm
$12.00

Can we imagine an American future in which "America" is less central to our political thinking than "the world"? It's a concept that lies at the very heart of 21st-century approaches to global cultural evolution. But what are the implications for patriotism, nationalism, ethnicity, and culture? What's happening in America? What's happening to America? Are our religious, social, and political values truly in flux? For better or for worse? This lecture will explore a number of points of view, from the darker view to the more hopeful. We'll examine the "descent into fundamentalism" and the "progressive resurgence." Is religion a positive force or almost entirely negative? And what about popular culture? TV? Modern literature? We'll encounter a variety of opinions. Along the way, we'll try to sort it all out. If you're a thoughtful critic of the modern American scene, you'll want to take part in this extraordinary discussion.
To register: email claruscenter@hotmail.com  and let us know how many seats you'd like to reserve.  All payment should be by check or cash on the day of the presentation.
