Dear Members,
With our 2nd flooding event in 4 years behind us, the Rye Y and community are undertaking cleanup and restoration of our homes, facilities and public spaces. Our neighbors and friends throughout the Sound Shore are all experiencing Irene's devastating effects to varying degrees. We know that restoring some measure of routine to daily life will help over the coming days and weeks. The Y is working hard to repair and renovate our facility so that you and your family may continue to enjoy all that the Y offers.

Nothwithstanding the 3-4 feet of flood waters surrounding the building, we are happy to report that our flood gates appeared to hold and stemmed the flow of the raging brook with groundwater providing the most damage. The Y's lower level Child Care Room, Teen Lounge, Spinning Studio, Pa Cope pool, and boiler room sustained the most damage, requiring extensive renovation and

replacement of materials and equipment. Although Hurricane Irene took its toll on our 21 Locust Ave. building, we are fortunate that the Fitness Center was undamaged and is open to members. This latest flood, though damaging to our facility, appears for now to be less devastating than the flood of 2007 which closed sections of our building for weeks and required over $800,000 in repairs.
Thank you for the many words of support we have received over the last week. Please know that the Y is here for you.

Executive Director
