Rye Y Wave Ryeders Win YMCA
Regional Championship & State Trophies
Wave Ryeders 2010The Rye YMCA Wave Ryeders swept the Westchester-Fairfield League Swim Championships (March 6-7) by over 200 points and won the championship for the 5th consecutive year.  At the YMCA State Championships in Buffalo, March 13-14, the Wave Ryeders brought home 3 first place trophies and achieved several top finishes. read more
Member Appreciation Week continues until Saturday, 4/3

Rollover Starts 4/5; Member Registration starts 4/14
Rollover week (for those members who wish to continue in a class)  is April 5-11.  Member registration starts 4/14.  Register online at www.ryeymca.org starting at 6 am. Online registration not available for kids' aquatics classes  - need an evaluation form. Must receive form (mail in/drop off) by April 13. Processing begins April 14 at 9 am (lottery). Spring Swim Team Tryouts - 4/6-13
The Rye Y is offering a Spring Swim Team for current Wave Ryeder swimmers, and for qualified newcomers as space allows. Spring Swim Team tryouts are held on April 6, 7, 8, 12 & 13 from 6-7 pm. Practice schedule: April 19-June 18, 2010.  For details, please click here.
Spelling Bee for Seniors - 4/7
Wednesday, April 7, 10:30-11:45am

My Y Week - 4/12-17
My Y Week is a week dedicated to improving awareness of the Strong Kids Campaign in our community.  You'll see lots of fun themes and activities throughout the Y during the week! To find out more about the Strong Kids Campaign, please click here.
Parents Night Out for Haiti - 4/9 -  ages 5-11
Friday, April 9, 6-9pm
Parents, drop your kids off at the Rye YMCA for a night on the town while supporting a most worthy cause. Proceeds will go towards the earthquake relief efforts in Haiti, through YMCA World Service. The evenings activities include: dinner, swimming, arts & crafts, jumpy castle, game room.  Fees*: $25  (1st child), $15 -2nd child, $10-3rd child. *Minimum suggested amount.  Click here to register online.
Meet the new Discovery Camp Director  - 4-12
Monday, April 12, 7pm at the Rye Library Meeting Room
Come and meet our new Senior Program Director, Scott Umbel. We're excited about Scott leading our Discovery Camp team this summer! All registered campers who attend (including campers who register Monday evening)  will be entered in a drawing to win a summer fun survival kit. 
Small Group Training with Jenn - Starts 4/10
Put a little "bounce" in your workout. This 6 week program is designed for people who are looking to get outdoors and increase their endurance level.  The class will consist of Intervals of Jogging, Sprinting and basic Calisthenics all while enjoying the fresh air. Reiki One for Tweens/Teens at Wainwright - 4/15
Thursday, April 15, 7:15-8:30pm - Ages 9-16

Gymnastics Open Workout - 4/15
Thursday, April 15, 6:30-7:30 pm, Ages 7 and up
Come and take part in our open workout program - work on all four Olympic events, plus Tumble Trac, and Mini Trampoline instruction. Gymnastics experience required. $20.  Non-Members welcome. Register online

April Teen Nights includes 7th/8th grade Dance, Poetry Slam & Volleyball Tournament!
Mark your calendar for some awesome special events for teens during April.  (see below). Dream Program for Girls - Grades 6-8 - starts 4/16
Fridays, 3:30-4:30 pm, Free to Members, No registration necessary
Over the course of nine weeks, D.R.E.A.M. members will be involved in activities and discussions with a focus on promoting healthy habits and attitudes.
Volunteers Needed - 4/23 and 4/24
Help create a wildlife habitat garden at Rye High School in celebration of Global Youth Service Day.  Garden clean up and planting will take place April 23 & 24 from 12-2pm and 3-5pm each day.  The Rye Habitat Project garden is made possible thru funding awarded by the Rye Y thru a State Farm grant.  For more information about volunteering for this event, please click email: rye-habitat@nyc.rr.com.

Aquatics Challenge & Fan Page
Destination Swim Challenge to Newport, Rhode Island (150 miles) will run 4/19-7/19. Participants must sign up at the Member Services Desk. The first member to arrive in Newport will receive their choice of a one-hour private coaching session or one-hour video stroke analysis.  All participants who reach Newport on or before July 19th will be entered in a raffle for a gift bag of "pool toys for swimmers.

Health Reminder
The Rye YMCA encourages members to take these simple steps to protect your health while here at the Y:
 -   Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing
-   Wash your hands often with soap and water
-   Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth
-   Try to avoid close contact with sick people
-   If you get sick with the flu, stay home from work, school or other public places
