2009 New Challenges, New Opportunities
"We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year's Day." ~ Edith Lovejoy Pierce A warm hello and Happy New Year to all of my friends and colleagues! I am delighted and honored to serve you all this year as chapter president for IABC First Coast. We are all facing challenging economic times, however, as Edith Pierce states in the quote above, we have the ability to fill the blank pages of the book of opportunity for ourselves, our families and the businesses we serve. Each month, I will share a quote or two that I hope inspires or touches you in a way to make you think. I encourage each of you to choose to enhance your personal and professional lives with positive networking and life-long learning offered by our IABC First Coast chapter. My experiences over the past 5 years have been a wonderful experience. I have a life-line of peers, colleagues and resources at my fingertips with the click of a mouse or a simple phone call. As we move into the tight economical climate of 2009, challenge yourself to welcome new people into your personal network, learn something new and create opportunities that might seem impossible. Our awesome group of vice presidents and leaders will continue to work together to provide you an unforgettable year! I close with one more quote from Gandhi: "We must be the change we wish to see in the world."
Please make this year one of your best! Hope to see you at our meetings and events! Sincerely,
Joanne Kazmierski

Join us for the January Professional Development Meeting
"How to Build Corporate Morale as the Economy Continues to Decline in 2009"
Communications professionals play an increasingly important role to the corporate bottom line as we move into 2009. Building employee morale and maintaining loyalty becomes increasingly complicated as companies are forced to downsize and streamline in order to survive this national economic crisis. It's becoming increasingly difficult to keep the good, existing team.
Motivational speaker and author John Chappelear, will share specific strategies to communicate corporate change to employees while encouraging them to be positive and productive. You will leave this luncheon meeting with specific suggestions to implement at work. Date: Wednesday, January 14, 2009 Time: 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Place: WJCT, 100 Festival Park Drive Jacksonville, FL 32202
To RSVP and pay with check or cash at the door, e-mail djones@jaa.aero. Lunch is included.
John Chappelear is an organizational consultant, author and professional speaker. He has more than 25 years of experience as an executive and entrepreneur, starting his first company in the Washington, D.C. area at the age of 30.

Member Spotlight: Joanne Kazmierski
New First Coast IABC Chapter President, Joanne Kazmierski, sat down with fellow IABC member, Lois Fiorelli, to answer a few questions for this month's Member Spotlight.
What led you to a career in communications? My mother guided me into the field of marketing and communications. From my early years, I belonged to many organizations including girl scouts, band, youth groups and other school organizations where I first began to learn the value of good communications and marketing to sell items and convince others to join. People tell me that my passion and perseverance are contagious. I have had great mentors during my career, and for that, I am thankful.
What do you like about your job? As the manager of community outreach and environmental advocacy for JAXPORT, I have the ability to develop projects, events and activities with any one individual or group in the northeast Florida community. In one day's time, I can be working on one or any combination of projects relating to international trade, education, small business, environment, jobs and workforce development and/or programs to give back to our community through charitable actions.
What do you like about being an IABC member? The ability to network with key communication professionals in the community. IABC has afforded me the opportunity to get connected to many dynamic individuals who are dealing with very similar projects and issues. IABC members span the world and in today's global society, I am connected to thousands of peers with the click of a mouse or a phone call.
In addition to the peer to peer connectivity, IABC offers me the professional development and life-long learning opportunities to keep me on the top of my game. I then can offer JAXPORT and any other of my volunteer organizations strong leadership in organizational communications.
What are your hobbies? Reading motivational books; sharing inspirational quotes; being a good friend; bike-riding; crafts; traveling and family activities
What's your most played song on your iPod? Bendita la Luz by Mana
What is your favorite book? "The Secret " |
